What can I say that hasn't already been said? Fantastic resource. Incredibly useful. Great artwork. This, in conjunction with my copy of Flee Mortals by MCDM and Sly Flourish's Forge of Foes has basically made my original WOTC monster manual almost irrelevant.

the monster statistics are pretty good, most monsters are simply stronger or weaker version of existing creatures, but some are really unique new monsters. the new artwork looks really good, which makes me a bit upset, as I purchased the print product of the first and second monster manual expended way before the new art existed, back when the art was way less uniform and to be frank, worse art. obviously a print product cannot be updated after it's bought, never the less, I wish I could switch to the new art somehow. overall, great book.

MMs are my love and this is as close as I can see to perfect as far as I am concerned. Well written, excellent editting. The art is really good, just not to my taste overall, but I can forgive that easily. Solid 4.9 out of 5.

I havent had enough to get the 3rd book yet, but the first two were absolutely amazing and are used heavily at our game table. Somehow this feels even better than the original MM and I love it.

The expanded monster manuals are all so great for giving you leveled up versions of monsters you can drop into your campaigns. I use them constantly to make it easier to build out encounters, especially at higher levels. All three are absolutely worth the money, and are the most used products I own from the guild.

The must-buy companion to the original 5e Monster Manual. Value for money. Monster Manual Expanded I comes with 334 pages and is priced at $19.99. For your money you get 487 stat blocks, which edges out the original 5e Monster Manual, albeit in a PDF format. I won't comment on the cost of the Print on Demand version as that does not appear to be in the hands of the publisher. It may be a little pricey compared to other offerings but this does represent great value for money. 4.5 stars. Presentation & Artwork. The artwork used is mostly functional stock art, but it's certainly not bad by any means. Stat blocks are spread around one or two per page and most pages give you art directly related to the stat blocks. Art used has been carefully chosen to cover most, if not all, of the monster variants provided. Even at this level there are some nice pieces, including the Wights and the really cool back cover, reused on the Golems intro page, which is clearly a homage to the AD&D Dungeon Masters Guide. 3 stars. Content. Monster Manual Expanded I gives you at least one new variation for each of the original 5e Monster Manual's monsters. Some monsters provided are actually new ones in their own right, such as the Immolith and the Baernoloth. In addition you get several new miscellaneous creatures and nonplayer characters. Standouts for me include the Gibbering Horror and the Shaitan Angels. The star of the show for me has to be the Enormous Mimic, which I've used in my own campaign to great effect already. It would be nice to see some more original monsters, but this absolutely hits the bullseye in terms of the brief and will certainly provide any DM with plenty of variety saving countless hours of game prep. 4.5 stars. CR Range. The monsters range from CR1/8 through to CR30, with the 80th percentile of the monsters (399, or 81.9%) lying at CR11 or lower. Tier 1 gets 180 (37%) of the monsters, Tier 2 gets 201 (41.3%), Tier 3 has 73 (15%), and Tier 4 gets 33 (6.8%) of the total. It would be good to see more Tier 3 and especially Tier 4 entries for established, or higher-level, campaigns. 2 stars.

Overall. I'm bumping this up to a 4 star review, as it comes in at 3.5 stars. This a great companion to the original 5e Monster Manual, and easily stands by itself as a really decent book.

*** Update 9th August 2024 I'm dropping my rating down to 3 stars due to the significant price increases for this product. Since my original review the price has been increased from $20 to just shy of $30 (at today's exchange rate of 1.27 GBP to USD).

Fantastic work. I definitely don't regret buying the hardcopy version.

This book doesn't need my review, it's obviously made its mark, but I can't resist piling on the praise.

The availability of powered up and/or powered down versions of classic monsters is so damn helpful. I have the hardcovers and they stand proudly by all my WotC monster books.

Quite useful to keep individual monsters relevant at higher levels. I had my first player kill as a DM in 5E, using the assassin vampire spawn! Some of the monsters probably won't see too much action, anf the book didn't give me as much inspiration as I hoped it would, but it is more useful than I thought at first! Some pictures are a bit pixelated in print format, but having worked with free DMsGuild creator resources myself, I know it is hard having quality art without hiring artists or buying artwork and the amount of content in that book would have made it prohibitively expensive. I'm eager to buy the 3rd volume when it becomes available in print!

As a professional DM it is so important to keep things fresh and entertaining and that is exactly what these books provide! I could not be happier since downloading my copies!

More creatures and variations of of creatures. A great tool for any DM. I got the hard copy. The POD books don't have glued spines, so be careful with them.
