Have both played and run this one. Module was well paced, and its characters were well portrayed. Combats weren't too challenging, but as an older module that checks out, DMs needn't be afraid to max out a few HP bars for monsters. Rewards are fairly solid.

Only thing i would forwarn about is a certain segment in the second act with no overt threat to the party; mileage may vary depending on the types of player you have. The segment relies on players "understanding the assignment" so to speak. DMs should be prepared to evaluate and delegate guidance accordingly. I can't give more guidance without spoilers, sadly.

This is a very fun module; Danatar is one of my favourite NPCs to roleplay throughout this series of adventures, it has a great opportunity for the players to engage in some PvP without any hard feelings, and features some iconic enemies for the players to fight.

I ran this game recently (on-line) and it went great. This is an all around solid mod that provides good combat, good RP opportunity and good non-combat challenges. As well it has a mechanic to it that I have not seen in other modules (the Tar Stones) and a little originality can elevate a module if it is done right as it is in this case.

Pros: The final combat is quite deadly and can provide a challenge to any party, I find there are a lot of modules where the final battle is a bit lackluster and the party just breezes through it, well not this one, the party has to be on it's toes or else. The absolute best part of this mod for my party was the Kelp encounter when every member of the part failed the saving throw and I paired them off. Two of the stronger members (A Wizard and a Barbarian) totally went all out on each other blowing through big spells and class features for 3 rounds until they both passed one hit away from death each.

Con: The only con I have for this module was the 2nd last encounter outshone the first due to the players complete embrace of it, and that is A/ Situational, other runs of this mod may not have the same entertainment value. And B/ Not really a complaint, entertaining encounters are entertaining encounters and I will never complain about running one.

All in all, this is a good module for an experienced party looking for a bit of a challenge and very fun to run as a DM, I will definitely be checking out the other 2 in this trilogy down the road.

Top marks on this module, I was in a bind, looking for something that I could prep and run with almost no notice at all. And this module came through with flying colors. NPCs and the city and the background info are so sterotypical that if you lean into it, they become hilarious caricatures. And the main quest giver is very much the "Go collect these things for me and I can do the thing! Oh why don't I go get them? Because it might be dangerous!" Encounters are challenging, with a few fun surprises, little bit of diplomancy, little bit of exploration, and a good helping of combat.

CCC-BMG-37 Weakness of Rock

5/5 Stars

Another trilogy from Baldman Games, this time set around Hulberg. Weakenss of Rock is the first of the trilogy

A nicely paced adventure, with some RP opportunities and some decently challenging combats. I found the plot hook good, as well as the reason for speed. If you have ever DMed a table of “blow everything in one encounter and then take a long rest” characters, you know how nice it is to force the pace.

A lot of saving throw based challenges for the party can either make this very long or very short, depending on the effect of the challenge. Many of the saves included “Save for Half”, so I was able to chip away at my party in prep for the boss fight. If you have a party of crazy high AC characters, this is a good module to throw at them, since the various saves will cause them some troubles. The maps are easy to recreate on a battle mat, and I had most of the minis on hand (or close enough). I enjoyed running this module, and my players enjoyed the magic item unlock as well. A nice combat/RP mix for a table.

It's been said that it was a really tough adventure and while I think no tiers 3 are tough enough for my usual friends and players, this was a fun one.

The first encounter should had been 2 purple worms for average parties and maybe even 3 for very strong ones. Yes, they do a lot of damage but if you have a party with wizards who can plane shift them or bards who can banish or hold monster them, it's not challenging. It's fun though and it was cool to use the Purple Worm mini. The yuan ti shepherd druid was lucky to be immune to poison!

I've skipped the hag fight and made it a social encounter, it would have been way too easy for my players. The kelp encounter was fun though, the valor bard was his own rival so he kept fighting a major image of himself riding a griffin while the monk and the giant frog druid just did the whole job.

The final fight was very cool but the mind flayers need to be max HP and the spell list of the arcanists needs to be a bit modified (I gave them banishment, synaptic static etc...give them counterspell if needed and if you have the time to run a longer fight)

Overall, fun and easy adventure to run and my players liked it. I'll run the rest of the trilogy as well!

This is a great mod for experienced players and DMs, a little light on the RP especially if your players haven't played the first Hulburg trilogy so you'll have to be very creative with your NPCs. The encounters are unique and can be brutal even for an average APL party especially if there's only one level 16 and the rest are around 11 to 13. If you're like me, a DM who wants to give my players a hefty challenge but don't want to TPK the party, you probably have to make further adjustments. Otherwise, this mod can pretty much handle a full high-level party, so have fun!

This adventure has some brutal combats, if played right the dm could easily tpk without breaking a sweat. I allowed my players short rests in between each encounter but 7 level 12s it was brutal. The rp scenes were interesting but my players didn't really engage well in the third area my fighter decided to just swim away from the combat and starting the save at 23 was a little rediculous as everyone who tried immediatly failed, I allowed them to grab the kelp to help them defend it. Altogether I think I'd start the save at 21 and move it down from there, maybe even 19. Well written and as only 4 pages for a t3 adventure it seems a little crazy. I haven't bought the rest of the series yet but looking forward to how this ends.
