I will preface this by saying I am huge fan of GHC and had the pleasure of DMing or playing every adventure so far set in the border kingdoms. That being said, I was dissappointed with this adventure.
It had elements that were interesting, two different routes to go through, but the adventure as a whole screamed to me that it had not been playtested. The lead ins to the two different routes made very little sense, and the exposition as to "why" the players were forced to do what the adventure demanded was practically nonexistent. There was only the word of one faction (which as of season 8 is worth very little) as to why it is important to defeat the black wyvern. Furthermore, there is no way presented to the characters to explain a crucial plot point to the adventure. However, that is not my biggest issue with the adventure.
Nor is my biggest issue with the adventure that it claimed one of the most interesting monsters released in dnd (at least to me) an oblex, and used it as a gate guard that the adventure described as easily able to be sneaked around.
My biggest issue with the adventure was that it used the primary villain in the tier two arc of the border kingdoms as a tool to be thrown at the players, and one lacking a great deal of coherence or precision at that. All of the other adventures allude to this villain called "the black wyvern" and out of nowehere in this adventure you fight and slay him for no real reason. There is no powerful tension building, just a simple boss fight on a tower, a reprehensible end to an otherwise interesting character.
