This is really good for fleshing out Dragon Heist a bit more.

Great side trek for The Trollskull Manor. I wish the Phantom was fleshed out more because he became a mascot for the PC'S before I read the Haunting. The PCs weren't happy with having to kill the phantom and were disapointed. Anyways, this side trek of poltergeisting the PCs home has been a great insert for the Dragonheist Adventure. Many heart string story hooks to keep the PCs annoyed enough to deal with the bad guy problem.

One of the essential parts of the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist campaign is that the party is given a potential tavern called Trollskull Manor. Within is a poltergeist named Lif who, truth be told, is rather easy to deal with. It is full possible to restore the manor/renovate into a business and slay the poltergeist without too much effort. However, Trollskull Manor also has a dark history, which could lend itself to an adventure. In steps Dragon Heist: The Haunting of Trollskull Manor.

This short adventure dovetails nicely with the appearance of Lif, the street children three, and the renovations of the manor. The basic plot is that, while the party is renovating the building, several strange and haunting events happen, leading them to believe that the manor is cursed. While the party can choose to ignore these events, doing so will inevitably lead to more unfortunate events and perhaps even their business failing. Therefore, it's important that they confront Lif -- and the hag-shadow attached to the manor.

This adventure has several small parts which do lead into each other but can be mixed and matched. For example, the first section gives you several small events such as surprise rats, construction accidents, and strange dreams. Next, the poltergeist Lif attempts to murder the party. After that, they are visited by the vestiges of the hag-shadow Mama Esther, and, finally, they have to confront the hag-shadow, and, with any luck, finally save the orphans black from their prison. It's fully possible to only play this final section and have Lif actually talk to and help the party.

I quite enjoyed this adventure and so did my group. They enjoyed the ambiance of it as well as the mystery and the opportunity to investigate. Because of how we were playing WD: DH, I chose to do the adventure out of order, but it was easy to modify and satisfying.

Strictly speaking, The Haunting of Trollskull Manor isn't necessary for WD: DH, and you don't need to purchase this adventure; unlike other WD: DH modules, I wouldn't say this really fills in any gaps. I would also say the set up to the hag-shadow episode takes too long, and the connection between Lif and Mama Esther is pretty tenuous. However, these were easy issues to overcome, and I was able to run the adventure quite smoothly.

Ultimately, I do think this is a great adventure to purchase. It's only $1.00, and it's a great haunted house episode. You've got fairy tales and weird voices and ghost children, all of which are excellent. So, definitely, give them one a look!

In the hands of a talented DM, given the right setting and time of day, could be made to feel like a legit horror movie made into a game. The dread and menace up creep slowly into a thunderous crecescendo. Excellent stuff, worth three or four times the price easily.

Great bonechilling short adventure. Love it! Perfect for spicing up chapter two of Waterdeep Dragon Heist and ready to drop in any other campaign.

I purchesed a few diffrent Trollskull Manor packages prior to my run of Dragon Heist and this is by far my favorite. I love the sense of history it gives the place and it really helped me develop a sense of horror that gave Trollskull Manor a great deal more depth then the hard cover.

A solid approach to fleshing out Trollskull manor, with a well-executed horror bent.

This module helps out anyone who feels at odds about what to DO with Trollskull. I used it for a second run of Dragon Heist, with a different group from my first run. In the first playthrough, Trollskull ended up being little more than a place for plot-critical NPCs to find the PCs, and a location for long rests and stashing gear, despite my best efforts. With the help of the module, I managed to ground Trollskull a lot more, and injected some good horror-tinged writing into the otherwise narrative-light Chapter 2.

The encounters and monsters may need stat-tweaking (up or down) to make sure your party feels really threatened, but not utterly overwhelmed. Don't be afraid to play around with the narrative structure - the read-out box text is evocative enough to help pave over moments when the PCs end up breaking the sequence. Exorcising Trollskull is also a good hook for establishing the PCs' worth to the neighbours at the Alley, and for increasing their notoriety within the North Ward in general.

I tried really hard to hint to my players that the polyergeist haunting Trollskull Manor could be a potential asset, but they were determined to be rid of it. Enter this module... perfect for just such a situation. My players seemed genuinely spooked by the hag and a good time was had by all! We had a lot of fun roleplaying the characters intimidating the roofers into finishing the job on the manor despite Lif's hijinks. There were a few typos and missing words in the text, but nothing so egregious to make this module unplayable. In my opinion, based on its origin, the Gibbering Mouther's creature type should have been changed to undead instead of aberration, but who cares?! I'm the DM, so I changed the creature type.

Just finished running this as part of Chapter 2 of Dragon Heist.

This was a perfect little side adventure for my group, who were spooked when the Hag appeared and sang to children. They absoletely loved it!

Some of their characters are now a bit traumatized for the rest of the campaign !

My players loved this I changed it a little and compressed it into the first week of the manor being rebuilt as the party were after resolution to it

i also decided to make the bad spirit the spirit of the hags accomplace and keep leif as a friendly poltergeist it took the party a bit of time to work this out which added to the general chaos

Excellent work! Great creepy scenarios, it's easy to build a nice horror atmosphere.

One thing I did that other tables may want to steal- for the climax, instead of Mother Esther trying to eat ghost orphans, I had the three urchins from "Dragon Heist" come back into the manor for another prank- she was trying to get to them instead! Making them living urchins the players had bonded with a bit raised the stakes nicely.

This was a great way to expand on the haunting that is in the main module. I modded it slightly so that Lief wasn't involved at this point so that it wasn't two hauntings, though I did also toy with the idea of them that Lief was actually protecting and warning them about the big bad so that there would be guilt when they realised that they'd killed the thing that was protecting them... but this was fantastic and somethig that I can slide into other campaigns with. My players loved researching previous owners to try and work out where it was all going wrong and there were definately a few gag moments and "oh, I feel sick" from one player. Very good.

Very well made and well written adventure that really helps invest the characters in the manor. My only real complaint is that the ghost Lif is a tougher fight than the Hag-shadow. Lif is the very first combat in the story and the Hag-shadow is the last, for context. Which kind of juxtaposes the truelly exceptional story against the actual conflicts in the adventure itself. The Hag-shadow is no big set piece battle for a well played group of 3rd level PCs.

However, please don't let my criticism push you too far into the negative on this one. My players had a excellent time and it was a pleasure to run. This book is definetly worth your money if you plan on running Dragon Heist and you want to get the most out of Trollskull Manor.

PS: Find a way to bring Lif back after fighting him. He is one of the coolest "features" of the bar once it gets running and it would be a shame to remove him from the equation.
