I've only read half the module but I already know this is gonna be a great one-shot. It's got maps, it's got NPC descriptions, and I can't wait to characterize this place. worth the 4!

Full Read Update: The ending is super anti-climactic. There are a lot of good things included in this module that don't factor into the overall plot. I am making some edits. I do recommend this adventure, but the narrative falls flat once the characters make it all the way down. I love the town, I just think it needs to tie into the whole "Trouble" part, needs more depth, pun intended.

Creator Reply: Wow, you got back to me! Hey, honestly, hoping for the next iteration after this one as I fill my Moonsea region with interesting placecs. Didn't see a CCC-PP-TDD01-02 on your website or DMs Guild. I did spend a whole day filling Winton with characterization, giving NPCs complex relations who have parallel and conflicting wants. I wrote a backstory about its connection to the Rise of Tiamat and the Cult of the Dragon's interest in secluded Winton. I made one of the NPCs you provided a villain and enabler to the kobold's nefarious deeds, while another NPC a complicit enabler due to his situation and relation to the villain. If you ever feel like coming back to Winton for TDD01-02, I'd like to be involved in the collab or even newer versions of "Trouble Under Winton" as this AL mod/homebrew was a lot of fun to digest.

Hi Marco, Thanks for the review. This was intended to be the first in a trilogy of adventures, where the party would delve deeper, using the town as a base of operations. Sadly, the rules for AL CCC adventures changed after release and became incredibly restricted for a while, which effectively ended the storyline at that point. These rules have been through several incarnations since so there might be the opportunity to revisit this in the future.

This is a short / fun tier 1 module with a surprising variety of kobold types to keep combat interesting. It clearly foreshadows a larger storyline, but I'm unfamiliar with what that is.

I'm glad that the author remembered to include stat blocks for monster summons as well.

The S8 version of the module has "bonus objectives" written in, but they aren't really bonus objectives: the term has a meaning, which isn't used here.

It's a first game with kobolts that don't make DM and players get bored. Maybe too much normal kobolds I recommend to add on strong or average a Kobold Dragonshield instead 4-5 normal kobolds. History in this game is interesting and it is reasonable.

Ran this with a mixed group, including a first time D&D Player. The players enjoyed it, and from the DM perspective, the module is well written and I found the conclusion evocative. It has the pillars of D&D for a rounded adventure: social encounters, exploration and combat.

This module is a pretty good read. Some small grammar oversights, but overall it was great! There's something to be said about taking a low CR encounters and building something around them to make for an unique experience. I've always banged the drum for kobolds.. they can be devious, cunning, and intelligenct in their own unique ways, and this module just proves it! If there is any criticism I have is that the objectives and bonus objectives don't synch with standard Season 8 format timeing, but I suspect the modifications were made to try and offer the DMs some type of guidance to run it under Season 8 AL guidance. Either way, not enough to effect my rating-great effort by Micah Watt!

Buy this one! Great T1 adventure to have in your back pocket.

A yet unseen scenario ! Very good surprise to find out what happened in this module, and players had the same enjoyment to discover it along. There are quite a number of monsters in the last scene, so depending on the players' tactic they may end up outnumbered.

From the minute I started reading this adventure, I knew it was going to be a pleasure to run. The author put painstaking detail into the map, the details about Winton and it's residents and even listed the magic item table for the item unlock. The result of all this hard work is an adventure that is thoroughly engaging and easy for a DM to prep. I ran this for a group this weekend as an Adventurer's League Season 8 module and my entire table of 5 veteran players was intrigued and excited by the mystery and amused by the comical elements. Personally, I was very much impressed by the various types of Kobolds used in the encounters (several of which I had never run into). I speak for myself and my players when I say that we are very excited to see what happens in Winton next.

Rich in detail, but streamlined enough to play in just about two hours, Trouble in Winton was fun to DM and my players enjoyed it too. The geometry of the underground setting was well thought out and led to some challenging but thorougly enjoyable encounters.

Ran this at PAX and it was really interesting to see still another unique approach to kobolds and battle scenario despite the amount of AL modules that have been released. Despite being initially disorienting, the isometric map does help to an extent to visualise what's going on in the larger scale of the scenario. Could also use a little bit more lore on winton and its role outside of mulmaster.
