Thoughtful design, deft writing, really sticky imagery. The plague effects / mutations are dreadful in the best way. (Wish there was a random table for them!)

Faux Pas has a very LotFP feel to it and is the perfect attention grabber for players who think every encounter is a nail that they must beat with their hammer. Due to the setup, I think this whole adventure would work best placed on a hex map as a location. The adventure starts en media res and will have your player going "WTF" immeditately. Faux Pas is very creepy with lots of body horror and will definitely set smart players on edge. The art is not normally my preferred style, but in this case it works. It is very evocative, interesting and meshes well with the text. I would hazard to say the artist went to an actual art school as it has a very avant-garde feel to it. The gem of this whole piece though is the audio. Why no one has thought of this before, I have no idea. For someone who normally has to drive quite a ways to judge a game, this is PERFECT. I can now prep while driving. What a concept. This significantly cuts down on prep time and is something more game designers should be doing. To top it off, the narrator also has a great voice with good inflection and no annoying accent. For this utility alone, the harried judge should check it out.

I would normally rate this a 4 but due to the excellent and truly innovative audio, it merits a 5.

A small adventure consisting of a cursed village and cave system/ancient temple beneath written seemingly for LotFP or a similar Basic/Expert early edition D&D clone. The descriptions and writing are creative and clear while the scope is refreshingly small. I've rated it highly because it does what it seeks to do well. However, the focus is largely on body horror, making it very much a contemporary genre piece, and it adopts several elements of that genre, such as using the hook of (likely - they can avoid it if they think) inflicting the PCs with a terrible disgusting disease. Still, there's enough difference from the standard body-horror dungeon - a somewhat gonzo/science fantasy underlaying mystery and a good deal of fun, believeable NPC description (e.g. pugnacious teenagers swept up in a firey romance) - to lift Faux Pas above the standard body horror adventure and which should create a great set of roleplaying encounters. A solid, narrowly focused location based adventure that would fit decently into a high lethality gonzo or gore based setting.

An Excellent little book. Its got some fun twists. Its definitely a body horror module and could easily be run with your choice of system.

Faux-Pas is DOPE AF! my favorite niche-within-niche rpg stuff is "weird art-house but table ready body horror and madness adventure zine" the writing and art give me that quesy feeling of dread  that I love (and love to inflict on my players).

the addition of an audio file is gold!
