Deck O' Names - Japanese Generator

The app peforms as promised and does a decent job. The User Inteface is very utilitarian and unispired though. I can't read kanji and no very little Japanese, so I can't comment on the app's accuracy. What I dislike most about this product was the lack of support from the author or Tabletop Adventures - see my comments on the product's front page and a solution to what I was inquiring about. The author doesn't provide any info in the Readme.txt file for running this app on anything other than a PC, which IMO is unnacceptable considering it's uses Java based scripting - noted for its universality. As it turns out, I was able to get it up and running on a Android Table with only a little reasearch. I don't understand why the author couldn't have made the effort and listed instructions similat to what I detailed in my front page comments. IMO, the same should be included in the readme file for procedures on using it on tablets running the Apple iOS operating system.

This is a computer program similar to EBoN or Tablesmith. It generates names for asian/wuxia campaigns. (Your computer must allow the use of active-x controls for this program to operate) The Deck o' names generator can be used to generate family names, male first names, female first names, and Japanese place-names.

Likes:

1) Ease of use. The program is simple and intuitive. 2) Optional word translation feature useful for generating place names. 3) Good value for the money. 4) You don't have to be an expert in Japanese history and culture for the program to do its thing.

Dislikes: None

Bottom line: highly reccommended.

Wonderful product to help me generate names and to check wether they are good luck or bad luck names. Even better than the printed copy as it does the work for me.

Creator Reply:
The reviewer's critique, that -ko is a female ending, was one of the same critiques that Tabletop Adventures had for the product author, Amy Vander Vorste in the initial review of this product. However, through research and review of the authorized naming list recognized by Japanese authorities, Tabletop Adventures found that while -ko is most commonly used as a female ending in names, ko does also appear at the end of male names and place names in the following examples. The ending -hiko means prince or lad. The ending -ko for places signifies lake. In female name endings, the ending -ko generally means child or child of. The kanji reflected in each of these endings is distinct and if read in the Japanese would clarify this issue.
