Mal redactado y peor presentado.

Excellent set of minimalistic/freeform rules for roleplaying AND solo roleplaying. The idea of using words to play without rolling dice is genius. The document is not pretty, but hey, it is free!

Classic Star Wars with the serial numbers filed off. That's basically Star Scoundrels. Nothing new under the sun. But it uses the simple, elegant Action Tales rule system from Neon City Overdrive, derived from the brilliant FU rules, and that alone makes it worth the price of admission. Character creation takes 5 minutes, the rules are straightforward and easy to learn, and can handle anything from blaster firefights to space battles without a hitch. A set of useful random tables complete the book. Highly recommended!

Minimalist, elegant rules expansion for Lovecraftian adventures with the Bookmark NO HP rules. No filler, straightforward, create a character in a few minutes, play with Things Man Was Not Mean to Know and lose your mind, as it should be :-)

Yet another excellent expansion for the Bookmark NO HP rpg. The ship creation rules add a new layer to the rules which could be just as easily used for other purposes, like creating factions, communities and organizations. Highly recommended if you are a fan of the system.

The D6xD6 expanded rulebook and several other minisettings available separately covered most genres you could possibly play with the system. For me, superheroes was the main genre missing, until now. I have been waiting for this for a long time, and it delivers the goods with simple but complete rules for playing golden, bronze or modern era supers. Highly recommended if you are a D6xD6 fan.

Great kid-friendly rpg based on the brilliant TT system by Richard Woolcok. Worth every penny!

For a lovecraftian fan like me, this TT One-Page rpg is a treat! The layout design is simpler than other TT one-pagers, but it features a wealth of content in only 8 pages (just to be clear: the rules themselves take only 1 page, and the other 7 consist of an adventure generator and setting information). A very good rules-light alternative to the standard Call of Cthulhu rules.

Thank you for your review. Did you use it for a play session? Do you have any advice to improve it ? |

A very interesting rules-light system, generally well explained and written, and which seems to be a very good choice for one-shots and short campaigns. However, I think it would greatly benefit of an example of play in order to really grasp how the game is supposed to develop in a real gaming situation.
Edit due (in part) to publisher's reply, and because I realized I was too succint yesterday: I forgot to mention the very nice layout, which is really good for a free/pay-what-you-want product (and miles ahead of what you can find in quite a few paid games), and the large number of example foes for very different kinds of settings (Zombies, Pirates, Monsters, etc.) at different tiers of power. The guidance on improvising a one-shot game is short but solid and building your own foes is very simple, which should make it easy to come up with your own on the run. The mechanics have a good level of abstractness which make it easy to apply them for most situations. I would add that this seems to be one of those games which would benefit of the addition of a simple solo engine, as there is already a table of random situations or twists to help the GM setup scenes.
The lack of a written example of play and perhaps and example of advancement (or a sample character at several levels of advancement) is the only thing that is actually preventing me from giving it five stars. A link to an actual play podcast or video, as the publisher suggests in his reply (and which I would very much like to listen or watch) would be a nice touch but I personally prefer written examples. As far as systems explicitly focused on one-shot games go, I think this is one of the best examples I have found recently.

Hi Alfredo, thank you so much for your very kind review! :)
What kind of gameplay example do you think would be good to include?
There are a few podcasts who have played it, and at least one game on YouTube; is that what you mean? Or I can update the rulebook with a written hypothetical scene mimicking what would happen at the table, if that's better.
I'd like to make the game as accessible and easy as possible.

If you enjoyed Lester Smith's Bookmark NO HP rpg and its sourcebookmark Dracula's Get, you'll like this too! It adds some interesting twists to the basic Bookmark rules to reflect genre conventions. You now roll a d20 besides your attribute dice to add variability and unexpected consequences to the results, and having a lot of powers can make your superhero less effective when they are needed. I really can't add any more details without giving away the whole sourceboomark, but it certainly is a refreshing take on superhero gaming.

In Dracula's Get YOU are a creature of the night, a vampire. Not one of those glitzy romantic vampires you find in certain novels and films (bleagh!), but an authentic member of Dracula's lineage, a manipulative and conscienceless monster that shares with the honorable ancestor exactly the same powers described by Bram Stoker. Just for that alone it is a fun proposal, but it is also a great example of how to deal with supernatural powers using the minimalist mechanics of Lester Smith's Bookmark NO HP rpg. Highly recommended!

Yet another minisetting for the excellent D6xD6 rules by Lester Smith. This one pays homage to the old Warren/EC horror anthology comic-books. The main characters are not exactly heroes, as they are haunted by a Shadow of the Past (some horrible action in their past they did or contributed to) and driven by a Dark Desire (something connected to their Shadow they want so much they are willing to kill or betray anyone to get it). It also adds a simple Terror Token mechanic which rewards the players for acting in character and leading their own characters and the group to their undoing. The result is a game in which everybody will probably meet a grisly ending, but will have a lot of fun doing so. It needs a group of players who are familiar with the kind of fiction Tales from the Terror Tomb is based on and are willing to go along, but in my view that's a feature, not a bug.

The worst part of the Bookmark No HP RPG is... that it is so short you can't really explain anything about how it works without giving the whole rules system away (and this leads to a Fight Club-like situation: "The first rule about Bookmark No HP RPG Club is you don't talk about the Bookmark No HP RPG rules.”) Anyway, Lester Smith has managed --much like he did with D6xD6-- to create a deceptively simple system with hidden depths, built upon a robust dice mechanic and, most of all, fun and suspenseful and which you could probably play anywhere with the help of a smartphone dice roller. Highly recommened if you want to give an innovative minimalist rpg a try. That said, I am going to bend the rules of the Bookmark No HP RPG Club a little bit and present a sample character:
Nina Rodrigues
Vocation: Postapocalyptic taxi driver and part-time vigilante
Attributes: Brawn d8, Grace d6 Will d10 Wits d4
How do you roll these Attributes? What do you use your Vocation for? I am afraid that would be telling too much ;-)

Another excellent addition to the Tricube Tales one-page minirpgs line. This one is special because of the Scribus template which will allow anyone to create their own one-page settings using the author's layout. And, honestly, the price simply can't be beaten.

Now you can use the brilliant Saga of the Goblin Horde free sourcebook for Savage Worlds with the exquisitely simple Tricube Tales ruleset. Another quality addition to Zadmar Games' line of one-sheet (well, two-sheet; okay, four-sheet in this case) games, and well worth much more than the money the author asks for it.
