Torchbearer Sagas: Roost of the Condor Queen
Publisher: Mordite Press
by Michael O. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/20/2018 09:23:52

Worth it for the Banish/Abjure rules alone, but the adventure is punchy and well-designed. The focused scope is ideal for Torchbearer.

Torchbearer Sagas: Lots o' Loot

Something I've thought about a lot in Torchbearer is introducing unique items that have interesting benefits but require creative use. This list is brimming with items that are funny, evocative, and insidious. Many of the more powerful items exact a price for their use, or cause complications that drive the action forward rather than neatly solving problems for the player. Looking forward to weaving lots o' this loot into my campaign.

Apocalypse World (2nd Ed)
Publisher: lumpley games
by Michael O. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/22/2016 11:05:23

Apocalypse World is the game that changed how I play rpgs. The theme of scarcity is woven into every rule and the MC rules tell you how the game works: how to keep pressure on the players to male the characther's lives interesting. The second edition adds better rules for intertwining charachter histories, for chases, battles, and sneak-attacks. It also adds great playbooks that evoke Immortan Joe and the Doof Warrior, in addition to the inscrutable child of the maelstrom. Buy it, play it, let it get real weird. Your friends will surprise you.

The plague Empire - A Roman quick start for Undying - ENG/ITA
Publisher: Federico Totti
by Michael O. [Verified Purchaser]

This is a phenomenal supplement for starting an ancient Roman Undying campaign. The setting detail is rich, with a premade relationship map, hunting grounds map, and custom lore for a plague-ridden city. The art design is solid throughout, especially for the character design and playbook layout. The supplement contains advice for diving right into a convention game or one shot, or for adapting your r-map in a full campaign. I haven't tried the Sybil playbook, but it seems like an interesting and setting-appropriate addition. For $5, this is a great tool for starting a new campaign, or just to use as a model for mapping out your own custom lore. I can't recommend it enough.

Masks: A New Generation
Publisher: Magpie Games
by Michael O. [Verified Purchaser]

Masks is the most well-produced rpg text I have ever read. The rules are well laid out, the setting details are rich but not overwhelming, and the examples are clear and concise. I also love the art; it sets a tone for the game and it look great. The conditions system ties harm directly to the narrative without getting too complicated. It borrows from Apocalypse World and Monsterhearts, while innovating a few exciting ways. I can't recommend it enough.
