Inspired Device's are making me a repeat customer with this 5th entry in their Mirror Universe series. Bright, colorfull art with JL:U tones and well crafted Heroes & Villians. Already planning on using YPNO the Seer and Nova+ for my game.

As I've now bought all of the Mirror Universe sets, I'm reviewing 3, 4, and 5 together here. 1 and 2 I reviewed recently and 6 I will review later.

3, 4 and 5 continue the line at its basic strengths, nice looking, cartoon-style superhero cut-out art cards. The good/bad alternates for each are as inspired as the first two volumes, though there is now greater variety I would say. The overall vibe is still very much a silver-age/bronze-age one which is fine for me but maybe not perfect for anyone hoping for more dark and gritty heroes/villains.

Ultimately these are a fine tool for use with any superhero campaign, especially as either quick heroes and villain inspiration, or simply as visual tools. Oh, and check the Inspired Device homepage for previews and freebies if you're undecided, or if you fancy a horde of faceless footsoldiers, heh.

Inspired Device came back with another strong effort on this set. I was a little concerned they were out of ideas on Mirror Universe 4, but not so. This set is just as strong as the early ones in the set (MU 1,2 & 3). 6 heroes, 6 villains makes for 12 character designs. This isn't just an evil version of the hero, either, but completely different concepts. The origins are minimalist, but the combination of art and synopsis should inspire good campaign ideas.

Another fine, classy product from Inspired Device. As with its four predecessors, Mirror Universe Volume 5 is wonderfully illustrated and contains brief, but useful biographies of the characters presented. If you like the animated style of super-heroes and you like cardstock miniatures, you really can't go wrong with this set. My favorite in this set? The good version of Nova +. Now if they'd only put out more volumes...

An RPG Resource Review:

Another fine collection of character sketches which can be incorporated into any superhero game. As before, each comes as a full colour set of stand-up, miniatures-compatible figure and counter, plus lineart versions if you prefer your own colour scheme. This time the emphasis seems to be on the straight 'costumed super' in spandex, with several variants of both sexes, as well as a fellow with an armoured cyberarm and a couple who either are robots or whose costume includes a bucket worn on the head!

Each colour page also includes a 'condition monitor' for Mutants and Masterminds characters, and there are a selection of character background - some hero & some villain - which you can use if in need of a quick concept.

Like previous collections, it is a useful adjunct to any group's materials, especially if they like a visual aspect to their games. Bring your character - or the opposition - to life!

Another fine group of heroes and villains for M&M or any superhero rpg. Someday perhaps they'll do a super-group with similar costumes (i.e. the Fantastic Four) and their villainous counterparts or true mirrored characters (Superman/Ultraman).

LIKED: Pretty much everything.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Mirror Universe 5 is another in a line of successes for Isnpired Device. It continues the Bruce Timm style of animation and interesting characters that I have come to expect from the product line.

Here's looking forward to number 6.

LIKED: The art, the characters and the presentation as always.

DISLIKED: That it took so long to come out, I was definitely jonesing for it.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Mirror Universe is a nice product, it explores a well used plot device from the comics genre and wraps it up in a fun player friendly book.

LIKED: Nice art, and some different concepts than you may see in some games.

DISLIKED: By the discription I expected a full page picture of each of the characters, not just the foldups.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
