Ironsworn is a solo adventuring game that has all of the tools you need to go out on an adventure and discover what is going to happen. I do not consider myself a fan of PbtA games, and yet, Ironsworn's resolution system has found a way to make it click for me. The sense of discovery I had as my young alchemist traveled to find his mentor who went off to kill or be killed by a dragon is something I've never experienced in an RPG. And all it took was a few rolls on the right tables for the adventure to unfold.

Not a good fit for me. Seems like this game is much more for the solo player. If you like games like Fate, you might like this. It depends a lot on filling out the actings by making it up as you go. A few more mechanics than Fate, but still very much like doing improv. I do like the 2d6 plus a 1d10 dice mechanic. The timers are also interesting.

One of the best Solo TTRPGs and my personal favorite of them (technically my favorite is now Ironsworn:Starforged). This is an intuitive system once you get started and can be played solo, co-op, or group. It's system is a heavily modified PbtA engine, which I find that system to be hit-or-miss, but here it is tweaked and used to great effect! I'd recommend this system even for newbies to the solo style of gaming, I'm not sure how easy it would be to pick up for someone who has never played any ttrpg. Check it out for free then come back and buy the print. The print (I bought Hardcover) is great quality and the pages are clean and the book itself is laid-out well. If your a gamer, you'll want this for the shelf.

The game is somehow brilliantly simple and incredibly full of depth. While you always feel like a badass there is also real danger around every corner.

Awesome! I have played fable lands and four against darkens but this book feels a total upgrade on solo playing.

A great gameplay loop with an interesting core setting; Ironsworn is a perflect blend of narrative-focused storytelling and flexible but solid gameplay mechanics that reinforce eachother rather than happening to exist in the same space. Impressive depth for a game that could be played almost entirely with a character sheet and 3 dice, would buy again!

I started gaming in the 1970s and am absolutely gobsmacked when I see how awesome and creative designers can be. This is a stark world, a hard world to game in – but one completely of my own crafting. I love how thoughtfully and gently I am read through the creative rocess to build an adventuring world. Ironsworn is an inspired and carefully tuned platform where the mechanics serve the action in the game, and not vice-versa. Everything about Ironsworn is designed to inspire the player's imagination. There is a very good balance among the various moves and the possibility of outcomes ranging from great to terrible. The supplemental material describing the Ironlands and its inhabitants is creative and well-thought-out. This is a superior product.

I can't say enough about how great this game is. Shawn Tomkin is a true master of the ttrpg craft (especially gmless). Ironsworn is so well done that I think we will look at it as the grandfather of all great dmless ttrpgs in the future. After playing Ironsworn I was unsure how it could even be improved upon (until I played Starforged, the sci-fi spiritual successor of Ironsworn). The rulebook can seem daunting at first glance, but it is a very easy read, and the rules are far more simple than they may appear. Most of the book is dice tables/oracles, good rpg advice, and further rules clarification for those who need it/come across a unique situation. The actual rules are quick to read. Ironsworn is as much a guidebook to good ttrping/storytelling as it is a rules system. This is the next evolution of PbtA. If you're a PbtA fan-must buy. If you're not, still check it out.

Absolutely love this game. A perfect tool for telling whatever kinds of stories you want to tell.

It is great! Played it when everything was locked down, and it scratched that RPG itch! The book is huge, but the rules are easy to pick up and use.

What can I say that hasn't been said already? This is just such a great system. If I could knock it just a little is that I'm not entirely comfrotable with the abstracted combat rules, and I try for the most part to avoid it. Otherwise, I really enjoy playing Ironsworn as a great adventure while listening to some atmospheric music late at night.

This was a 9 out of 10. The BEST (only?) great solo rpg out there! A top tier rpg for between 1 - 3 players + an optional GM. Arguably the best shared MC PbtA game. One of the best low magic, low fantasy rpgs ever made! Now that Ironsworn: Delve is out this is a 5 star 10 out of 10 game. Easily the best free rpg I own.

Just an excellently put together rule book as well as a brilliant, accessible game for newcomers to RPGs and seasoned veterans alike. I really can't fault it.

In my opinion this is the best way to solo RPG and it's free! If you are used to D&D it can be a challenge to convert but the stories you create are just awesome.
