The Red Prophet Rises

The atmosphere is really excellent. Bloody, violent. And the map is very open, with lots of different approaches.

The only problem is that the presentation isn't practical at all, and the descriptions are often much, much too long. There are many walls of text that force the GM to rewrite many passages in his notes if he doesn't want to spend 10 minutes reading the section describing an encounter or a location.

It's a shame, because the adventure is really cool, with a real personality.

The book is very, very well produced. Well illustrated. Easy to use. There's lots of content, lots of original stuff... But the whole thing lacks coherence.

You go from one room with a weird thing, to another with a weird thing. In theory, the whole thing should be linked by a plot based on murder and betrayal, but I find it hard to imagine that players would be interested because (1) it's so complicated that even the GM struggles to understand what it's all about, and (2) it's not clear what the stakes are.

I'm sorry to give such a poor rating to such well-made free content, but reading this adventure bored me and I have no desire to play it. I'm all the more disappointed because it's rare to find content for level 5-7 characters.

I played The Singing Stones (you can read it in the preview). It was really excellent. It reads quickly and easily, and there are tons of things for players to do. It allows them to be very creative and create hilarious or moving scenes. This particular module adds a unique ambience, both visually and musically. I've been playing for over 30 years, and these 3 sessions were some of the best I've had.

A mini mega dungeon with 7 factions and half a dozen different environments. Very easy to prepare thanks to its "1 page dungeon" format.

At first, I thought I'd be doing simple dungeon crawling, but I gradually added lore and created a story around the factions and NPCs.

The progression and exploration are really excellent: you start in a sewer, then progress to crypts, caves, an ancient magician's laboratory, a temple, a prehistoric place of worship, etc. There's a real evolution from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

I played 11 sessions on this module (around 30 hours).

The description aren't detailed at all, but for me that's more of an advantage than a disadvantage. Very easy to use. Great product.
