I purchased this to be the set-up to my first ever campaign as a DM. I like how it reads, and it seemed like a perfect introduction, with modifications, to the "original" setting I'm devising for the campaign.
The Game of Thrones comparison did bring it to my attention, and all of the players are avid 40k fans. So a grim setting seemed right up our alley.
Can't really give a review of this adventure in practice though, as a new player has joined that I can see won't be as into this grim take. I don't want a female player's first D&D scene to be of a sexual assault about to happen. I see the job as DM to make the game equally fun for everyone at the table, and it just seemed easier to adapt different adventures.
That said, I'm keeping it in the repertoire nonetheless. Modifications to that opening scene can be made, and it'll still be a good lead-up to the village and future quests. The adventures I am instead leaning toward can easily branch off from that village.
