A Guide to the Astral Plane (2e)
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
by Ryan D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/05/2019 14:13:40

This book is amazing for anyone looking go do some adventuring in the Astral Plane. It provides a wide variety of rule variants to help explain the weird enviroment that is the Silver Void, as well as in depth explainations on why things interact the way they do. This book also covers what happens when gods die, is when of the best resources for Githyanki society, and details some cool monsters, as well as the many types of psychic wind. The scan can be a little difficult to read, and is laden in Planescape cant if that isn't your style. Otherwise, really good read.

This product is dated a needs updates. which it is not getting. Many of the races have been added into official products since this book's conception, making it redundent. The races are also not balanced, and many of them are underwhelming.

The book of Overpowered Magic Items (v2)
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Ryan D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/16/2019 01:29:29

First things first, this is not very edgy. I would good sofar to say that this book is the unedgy items. Although many of the items were unique and had cool concepts, mechanically speaking they are a mess. Poor wording and weird damage dice (1d20 is terrible variance for damage) mare the cool ideas that I see in this pdf. It has what appears to be nonstock art pictures, which is its most redeeming quality.

This pdf has some great dungeons for higher level players to test they're mettle with. They designs are unique, especially the Beholder dungeon, and most of them have a spin you wouldn't expect. I will absolutely be running my players through these dungeons.

Ptolus: Monte Cook's City By The Spire (Ptolus Core)
Publisher: Malhavoc Press
by Ryan D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/18/2018 09:46:10

This is an amazing setting. The book is written in a way that really makes you feel like the city is alive, and the "Running an Urban Campaign" chapter really helps you emphasize that. The different districts all have their own unique flavor that is thuroughly discussed within their own chapters, complete with helpful hints by the writer. The book is rather hefty, and if you don't buy the pdf and just buy the hard copy you do not get the many handouts refererenced in the book. It is also dated, using 3e mechanics, but the stat blocks are not necessarily needed to run a game from this book. The biggest downside to the book is thatany of the important points are not connected, which is great if you want to use them alone. But it is somewhat of a challenge to string multiple major plot points together, although the book does give you dozens of plot points to choose from.

Player's Companion

Date Added: 12/18/2018 09:27:20

The main draw to this book will be the classes, which are written with balance in mind. The biggest issue with them however, is that many of them are overly complicated and convoluted due to having to make them unique from offical classes. Other than that, they have been fun to play and enjoyable to build with. The races, feats and spells are just the right amount and fill im niches that haven't been used yet. They are also pretty concised, yet still mantain their uniqueness. This book also adds some fun weapons and equipment to truly make a one of a kind character.

Teratic Tome

This book has a niche, and it fills its niche okay. It is all about mutant monsters and demons who gorey than your average game. If you are not into that niche, do not get this book, as it does little to satisfy any other want. The formatting and art are in an older style which is not to my liking. The stats blocks are sometimes hard to read because they go across multie pages.

Heroes of the Orient: Player's and DM's Companion
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Ryan D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/18/2018 08:41:44

This book has a lot of really useful information if you want to add an Orient flare to your campaign. It has an in depth look at a samole Orient setting, complete with a caste system and ways to use the Honor varient system from the DMG. in addition, this book adds some new items and unique magic items that really fit the flavor of the book. The classes are well written, and although I haven't played any of them, they all appear to be fun and thematic. There is also a limited set of spells that fit the theme very well. All in all, this book is well worth the price. It adds races, classes, equipment and spells for players, all well written, flavorful and unique. It also adds a good setting for DMs who want to run a campaign in an Orient setting but don't want to create their own. Finally, the book is easy to read and visually is rather impressive. The only downside to this book is that the DM and pplayer information are mixed together and it is not formatted the same as most Compendiums.

World Builder's Guidebook (2e)
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
by Ryan D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/24/2018 09:52:00

Personally, I love this book. Its got everything you need to build your own setting, and lays it all out for you in a systematic order. It also provides nice hex and grid maps, which i use constantly in my games. And its system agnostic (technically) since you use it before you play the game, it doesn't matter how the game is played. Ita major downside, for me anyways, is that it is very slow to follow this book by the letter. Theres a large amount of focus on things like air and sea currents that are technically required for worldbuilding, but are very specific and niche in practice. It also feels dated, but it is, so thats understandable. Do not expect to use this at the table while playing, but if you want to start a campaign in a new world, or expand out from your starting town, then this book is perfect for you.

Class Character Sheets - The Bundle
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Ryan D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/24/2018 09:36:24

Amazing product covering all the official classes and a few of the non -official ones too. I use this on all my single class characters, as it puts everything you need from the book right their on your character sheet. Their might be some mistakes here and their, but overall is a super quality product. Espicially good for new players that do not know all their class features yet. One downside; it makes it kinda difficult to multiclass, in particular if you didn't plan to multiclass from the beginning. But this is a minor nitpick on a great product.

AC4 The Book of Marvelous Magic (Basic/1e)
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
by Ryan D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/24/2018 09:25:26

Ever wanted an anchor that you could fish with? Or a door that turns your resident rogue/thief backwards when he opens it? Or maybe a fork that helps you choose left or right? Well if you did, then this book is perfect for you. AC 4 has magical versions to almost every mundane item you can think of, from Alternate World Gate to Zwieback, and a good combination of serious, silly and cursed to keep things interesting. although this book is for Basic, it can easily be used in AD&D (and tells you how to do so), and even 5th edition with a little wording changes and DC adds here and there. If you ever had an itch to have a magical cot trap your players, or if your players are begging you for a shovel that just never stops, then check out AC 4. Disclaimer: There is no generic magical weapons or armor in this book, although their are items that can be used as such.

AC11 The Book of Wondrous Inventions (Basic)
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
by Ryan D. [Verified Purchaser]

A book full of zany inventions that stretches the boundaries of what can be done with old tech. Many of the machines are useless in most compaigns, but they nonetheless spark the imagination and provide alot of fun. The few semi-serious inventions (Cloud Builder, Dungeon Borer and Printing Press to name a couple) can provide neat and fun ways to explain the behind the scenes of worldbuilding (in-game).

Monsters of the Orient: Complete Bestiary
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Ryan d. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/01/2017 09:29:54

Artwork is phenomenal and about 85% to 90% orginal, which to me is the key reason why this book is worth it. Many of the monsters have orginal abilites, unique niches and meld well together to create a functioning monster ecology. However, some of this of the monsters have no artwork at all, and typically these monsters had very small descriptions. This makes then difficult to use due to the unique setting of this book. There is also too much emphasis on extremely powerful unique monsters, while some of the smaller more common monsters have very short entries.
