Fun rating for 3 stars because the DM may need to railroad the players into the encounter, and if the players are not fond of tavern trickery with being baited with alcohol or games of chance, the players may be resistant to follow the all powerful gnome.

I do like the power of the "shunting magic" where the PC's are just within the doorway trap limit to be automatically shunted into the tavern by one-way teleportation or gate doorway. And no save to resist being forceably pushed into the tavern?

This scenario is a great example of an idea in need of metaplay, where your players must be open to whatever just to play D&D because the players know the DM has something they can't avoid, and as long as there is no great chance with dieing they are fine with whatever.

I love the Masterpiece being the Hulk. There should have been a grog concoction to raise the Hulk from the Dead. That would be a 4 star rating!

Interesting premise but poor execution.

The written instructions make far too many assumptions about which NPCs and characters will be in the game at a given point in time. The DM either has to roll for everything in which case, probability will all but ensure that you can't use the pre-written events, OR they can fudge rolls and try to run it by the book in which case 50% of the adventure is a cutscene with the players able to move around on the side.

Speaking of, the elimination style rules make it so that most of the Players will be sitting on their hands, unable to interact for the majority of the games.

Also, there's a picture of the incredible hulk used as a stand-in for the Frankenstein's monster-like boss.

3 stars for the setting and fun potions/drinks. 0 for the actual adventure.

Hi Simon! Glad you liked the setting and the drinks! As for you comments about the adventure, I apologise. Unfortunately, assumptions have to be made when writing an adventure. It's impossible to know just how many players or the kind of DM that will be sitting at your table. We've seen this adventure run many times from level 1 to level 5 with as little as 2 players and as many as 6 and each time the adventure has run differently thanks in part to this versatility in the adventure design. The many games that exist in this adventure can be rolled by either the DM or the players, but it is strongly encouraged that the players roll since they're the ones competing in the games, and you also require them to RP their way through the games also. Of the 5 games, The Ladder and The Keg games, in particular, are very skill challenge-y in this respect, so robbing them of that by taking away their chance to roll isn't advised. The elimination rules are not designed for you to cut your players off from doing anything, but to encourage the players to explore more of the tavern. In particular, why it's proprietor keeps sneaking off between games and coming back different. If this part of the adventure is ignored, then yes, I'm afraid players will be sitting around wondering what to do. The Masterpiece appearing as "the hulk" pulls from a royalty-free art asset, and the attached "brain-swapping" instance of the adventure should be an intriguing thing for both the DM and Player. All in all, it sounds like you didn't enjoy reading through the adventure but I encourage you to give it a go with your table and discover all the fun that many have had so far! If you get stuck with anything, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me @HaggardClint on Twitter :) Good luck!

Fun and imaginative, this adventure allows for a great balance of role playing and combat in a single session. An adventure that is easy to run, easy to read, and memorable to play.
