Been interested in trying this game out for a bit, and decided to run it for my group the other night.

We all had a blast, and one of the players even said it was "the best one shot [they] ever played." The game definitely crafts its own comedy in a very organic way, and even the players who normally struggle with improv and roleplaying had a real easy time with the game. Even more surprisingly, the dungeon that we slowly generated over the course of play morphed in a very organic way into a cohesive dungeon with a clear theme, despite being built brick-by-brick with improv. In our case, what started as Wirdum, the Lost City of Cogs, and home to an unstoppable mechanical army slowly morphed into a multi-millenia-old, ruined theme park with broken animatronics and an unstoppable army of maintenance and cleaning mechanicals.

The only problem I had with it was that the rules were a little unclear at times. Did Danger Score count all actions or only successful actions? Are you assumed to escape the room once complete those actions, or do you then have to spend more actions to escape? There were a couple edge cases that the "Doing Stuff" section of the rules didn't really cover either. The game is rules-lite though, so some problems like this are to be expected and we all bumbled along and house-ruled our way to a happy conclusion. An example of play in the book would probably help with clarifying things a bit.

If you're looking for a fun one-shot that will produce some genuine laughs and great stories/in-jokes you'll be able to share with the group for a ways to come, this is the game for you.

when I first heard about this game I instantly knew I HAD to play it, not only is Thomas' art just amazing but the concept is great! so, when a few weeks later Thomas gave me a copy so I could review it for him, I was ecstatic! I really wanted to play this with my local group, but scheduling sucks and we haven't had a chance yet, (soon, though, soon!) so I decided to do a run through on my discord server instead, and OMG we had such a blast!

This really is a no prep game, just give the main rules a read over, hand out the character sheets and rules references and you are ready to go, everything is pretty self explanatory. Game play is similar to Baron Munchhausen where players tell convoluted and extravagant stories of past and present exploits, but RH has the Dunarch to give prompts and obstacles and adds dice for extra spice and desperation. We ended up with wonderful stories of disaster and miraculous success told by nearly inept hirelings as they bumbled their way through the dungeon. The hardest part I found at first as the Dunarch was coming up with weird and exciting challenges that didn't rely on combat. But the once everyone got into it and the players descriptions got more and more interesting and hilarious, everything just flowed perfectly.

Our game involved a lowly farmer creeping along the floor with a barrel over his head pretending to be a worm to escape sentient statues, a torchbearer seducing a red dragon, a fool giving a lecture on the merits of a potato stuck on a stick as a form of art criticism as so much more. It was one the most hilarious games I've played in a while. You should all totally go get yourself a copy, and play the heck out of it.
