Lion & Dragon

Game itself is simply a rehashing of B/X with the crux of everything put onto a d20. In my opinion, the type of game being presented by the author does not work very well within a B/X framework. Needs a fair bit of copy editing work done, with quite a few "see page XX" items, typos, and the like that were not caught. Also feels deliberately incomplete in many aspects, as if the author is trying to sell supplementary material to fill the deliberately left holes in the game, such as reactions, encounters, NPCs, and setting. Likewise with setting, it is clear the author didn't do much research as they shy away from mentioning Christianity at all, and give the stand-in almost Shinto-esque trappings, which would have made for a drastically different England given the time period. All in all, feels a bit lazy, and I would personally recommend either Wolves of God by Kevin Crawford or an earlier edition of Pendragon if you are insistent on running a game in this setting.

Disclaimer: I know the author, so take this review with a grain of salt

A very well rounded B/X Post-Apocalyptic game with classes and art very reminiscent of the tropes of Fallout. The "Atomic 2d10" system, in my opinion, is also really well done and reduces a lot of the swinginess of D20 systems. Only 4 stars though, as it is in and of itself a very lean system; although that can be expanded upon later on.

A great gonzo and deadly system that does a great job of taking B/X and heavily expanding on it from the get go. The dice chain system is simple, but is not entirely my cup of tea (hence why only 4 stars) but the rest is incredibly well done!

Also, very easy to find a group for, which is an added bonus, as Goodman Games gives a lot of support to clubs and game stores.

All in all, an alright game. Not a lot of meat on the bones; but a lot of content under the hood nonetheless. Also quite usable as a supplement otherwise with the complete guide to English herbology included in the book itself.

Figured I would finally write a review of this. Honestly, this has become my favore B/X retroclone. Great, concise writing. Good layout. Good art. Good play aids.

All around, a very well done game. Also takes the cake for my second longest running campaign (ended after two years) only seconded to AD&D 1e.

Faithful recreation of the LBBs that incorporates the errata is an easy way, incredibly useful for a classic traveller campaign. Hopefully the next LWB that will be the classic books retypeset with formatting done better do as well as this one!

Adventures Dark and Deep Players Manual

I started off my tabletop RPG experience like many other gamers, with AD&D 1e. Since then, I have played a multitude of systems ranging from rules heavy (HERO) all the way to super rules light (PDQ), but something was always missing from my RPG experience. My gaming group has been with me for years, with me as their GM, and we have been trying for some time now to truly get the old school feeling back to our games. Then I stumbled across Adventures Dark and Deep, which perfectly recreates the feeling of 1e with a menagerie of new content such as new classes and sub-races. After character creation alone, it is apparent the similarities with AD&D 1e, and from there it is an amazing game. I absolutely love it!
