A very fun, wide assortment of encounters to plug into Tomb of Annihilation or another jungle setting. "Tavern Trouble" is a highlight. I used it as part of a "City on the Edge" opening to Tomb of Annihilation, and it fits perfectly. Great to subvert the taven-opening trope in a fun and unexpected way.

This is a must-have Tomb of Annihilation supplement, with a number of wonderfully crafted and flexible encounters to introduce into your campaign. I lifted three of these and fitted them into two days of jungle travel in a recent campaign and my players absolutely loved the experience, with the whitewater river experience being a real highlight.

If you're dealing with hex crawl fatigue, a few of these mini-adventures are sure to spice up your sessions.

Review per adventure. I've read both "Encounters in the Savage Jungles" and "Encounters in the Jungles of Chult." This module is in my opinion the best collection of all three as there is a strong emphasis of quality over quantity and narrative sense over fight-fight-fight.

tl;dr

  • Tavern Trouble: Red Wizards foreshodowing!
  • If Looks Could Kill: Awesome NPCs and intricate roleplay and some potentially big development for Merchant Prince Jessamine!
  • Ambush from Above!: Big LOL potential without going too far into crazy land!
  • Mystic River: watch your characters dodge a brontosaurus tail! (Though tbh, this one is the weakest of the bunch)
  • Mudslide: Make characters lose their equipment or otherwise "nudge" them in the right direction in a meaningful way!
  • Beautiful Plummage: 5 stars for this one alone. See below.

  • Beautiful Plumage: 5 stars alone for this one. it has a reasonable and awesome hook to the Eshowe Tribe. They're such a big part of lore yet Chult is strangely devoid of any of their remnants. That and having a this unique location as a potential base of operations at the end for the party is fantastic. God knows Chult could use more Party Pitstops. The battlemap is also creatively done for how short an encounter this is and it synergizes beatifully with the short story given how short the story is.

  • Tavern Trouble: The Red Wizards of Thay NEED better forshadowing than they're given and this properly provides it. And besides, Tavern Fights are a DnD staple, you have to be prepared for them as a DM.
  • If Looks Could Kill: Reviews I read were totally wrong on this one. I don't know why people don't like it. If you are a DM that swoons over intricately designed NPCs that are rationally placed in the world (not just some loner found in the middle of the jungle of the dead...) you will love this little adventure which is more role-play than combat focused.
  • Ambush from Above!: Everyone in the reviews loves it. I love it too. I expected something over the top too ridiculous for my taste. I was mistaken. There is fantastic potential here for humour while still keeping everything in a coherently grounded world
  • Mystic River: Meh, too many of these already exist. Basically just a Chiwinga challenge
  • Mudslide: Go to watch "top-5 Massive landslide Caught on Camera" and pick which one you the DM want to throw at the party. Then reward any party members that did something creative to avoid or resist the slide by throwing an army of Earth Elementals and mud mespits that want nothing more than to YEET those party members (ignoring the already muddied injured ones) into mud. Tbh, this one is unintentionally the most hilarious but also mechanically interesting and useful since characters can lose equipment and the mud slide can be the helpful hand from the benevelent DM pushing the party that has gone off track in the right direction (by say dumping them in the crypt they were supposed to be in with lost equipment as a lesson)

A handy tool for fleshing out any jungle campaign. Most of the encounters are based on things PCs might glimpse or stumble upon in the jungle, and so they are an easy way to add a moment of flavor between major destinations. It's Chult themed, but easily adaptable.

I got this for a my homebrew campaign. I didn't do all of the treks with my players, but They did end up loving both encounters. to this Day Gricka the Grung is one of their favorite NPC's in my game! I love it because while it was made for chult and has a chult/Forgotten Realms feel, it is really easy to plop these encounters in any setting.

This is easily my favourite Tomb of Annihilation supplement, and added a lot to the adventure. The encounters are incredibly fun and flavourful, but also simple to run. I kicked the campaign off with Tavern Trouble, the first encounter in this book, and it really embodied the swashbuckling chaos that I wanted to carry through the adventure. The others have turned out to be just as good. Beyond the content itself, I feel like this helped me to think in a more creative and interesting way about random encounters in ToA and in general.

This is an excellent set of adventures to include in any Tomb of Annihilation campaign. Nearly all of them can be placed within the hex map, to be randomly encountered or intentionally encountered with some of the hooks provided. There are morale dilemmas, comedic moments, and interesting stories. Some of the adventures are short (~1 hour), some are long(~3-4 hours); so you get to choose which you prefer to run! I love (LOVE!) encounters that scale, particularly so I do not feel like I am rushing to run it before it lacks any challenge to my party, and each one of these adventures scales. My only complaint is that the adventure "If Looks Could Kill" provides too much NPC information for the level of interaction proposed in the adventure (yes, I'm complaining about too much info). However, if you do want these NPCs or location to become recurring in your campaign, this is great for you. I recently ran DDAL07-04 "A Walk in the Park", which includes a mudslide encounter as well. The Mudslide! in this product is far more engaging.

Out of all the ToA/Chult supplements I have purchased (which includes 17 of the AL and DM's Guild Adepts), this is my favorite.

This is a great supplement that offers a variety of short, well-written encounters (as I would expect from the authors, both of whom are experienced D&D writers) that can be included in any jungle-based adventure, and not just those set in Chult or during the course of a Tomb of Annhilation campaign. The six encounters themselves provide a creative mix of combat, roleplaying, and environmental challenges, and provide detailed scaling so that they can be used across a wide level-range. One of the best parts of this product for this longtime gamer are the 2e FR-inspired layout & design, the cartography, and the original B&W artwork commissioned for these adventures. Kudos to all involved!

Jungle Treks is a certified DM's Guild Masterpiece by the Going Last Tabletop Gaming Podcast!

This is an incredible guide to adventures in Chult created by two fantastic authors. Right from the start, Jungle Treks is filled with great artwork that draws readers into these six stories. Each adventure has been designed to easily scale between encounter levels, making this useful for every campaign navigating the wonders of Chult. Abadia and Menge have also made it very simple to print out each individual encounter with all the information needed to run it from start to finish: maps, enemy stats, motivations and conclusions. They've been completely successful at designing a product which easily plugs and plays into a campaign.

Some of the encounters provide the heart of an adventure. Tavern Trouble is exactly my kind of encounter, bringing a level of raw chaos at a surprising moment. If Looks Could Kill adds a mountain of politics with a caravan of NPCs filled with conflicting goals and personalities. Ambush From Above gives an exciting backstory and fun possibilities to what could be a mundane combat. Beautiful Plumage allows players the opportunity to clear out and gain their own base of operations. Each of these provide exciting moments that can lead to continued developments in the campaign.

The other two encounters are individual scenes of imminent danger that can add flavor to any exporation in Chult. Mystic River can turn any canoe trip into an aquatic nightmare while Mudslide! is what every set of hiking adventurers should dread. Both of these use a high number of skill checks, and care should be given to ensure that these are seen as motivating features and not just a series of die rolls.

Overall, I love Jungle Treks. A lot of time and effort has gone into creating a fun series of memorable encounters. Menge and Abadia have also ensures that everything feels thematic and steeped in the lore of Chult. I highly recommend this for any Tomb of Annhiliation campaign!

Jungle Treks delivers high quality artwork, industry-standard formatting, and a D&D adventure product that is useful across a variety of campaigns and settings. This is important to me, as someone who runs both a Tomb of Annihilation campaign and a homebrew wilderness-centric campaign.

Adventures are presented in a manner designed to aid the dungeon master in preparing a Jungle Trek economically. The dungeon master is provided with adventure Background, Setup, Encounters, Monster Stat Blocks, then Cartography.

The book is filled with both detailed line-art and fully-colored illustrations that can be used to both inspire the dungeon master and provide strong visual aids for players.

The adventures aim to meet the type of design aim that I prefer: Adventures and encounters that can be flexed based on party level.

Whether you are looking to expand the Tomb of Annihilation or add to your collection of encounters, Jungle Trek delivers on quality, flexibility, and creativity. Five stars. "Beautiful plumage!"

Two great writers have created a fantastic supplement! That awesome cover sucked me in, and the writing and encounter design made me even happier. Each of the jungle treks includes maps (if needed) and scaling suggestions for APL 1 - 10. Fantastic work, gentlemen!
