An interesting take on playing undead characters. By default, the Awakened Undead race is a little more player-friendly than traditional undead, in that they can be healed and benefit from effects targeting humanoids, but there is an option to remove these benefits for a more authentically undead experience. The subraces might be a little strong, and may have a few too many abilities when stacked on top of the base race, and some diverge from their Monster Manual counterparts... but they also look fun to play, especially the skeleton (which is the highlight of this product). Also of note among the subraces is the Necropolitan, which is basically a lesser lich. A selection of racial feats is provided at the end, with some neat additional options, though a few are a bit overcomplicated. If a DM was considering bringing undead PCs into their campaign, this is definitely worth a look; but carefully review the options here for balance before using them. The price is also tricky - the preferred rate of $4.95 for just 9 pages of rules material is a big ask, but since this is Pay What You Want, you're free to choose an amount that seems more fair.

This is the best take on undead races that I have ever seen. All of the races are amazing and the feat options can make them quite interesting and fun. I will highly recommend this product if you're looking for undead races to play.

Yes please! Having spent a good amount of my time as a DM looking for ideas on Pinterest, I got a large collection of various homebrew races. The awakened undead always fascinated me as an idea, and when I sadly lost my boards, I lost my homebrew races. Long have I looked for a worthy successor to the inspirations of that Pinterest board, and here was a welcome surprise. Though there are a few unbalanced things, fo rthe most part this is a solid look at the concept, and well handled. I hope there will be more like this in the near future...

Considering that 9/10 top Google results for "awakened undead pinterest" are for an earlier version of this homebrew that I put out on reddit way back when, odds are that this is probably the exact same race you lost off of your boards. ;)
The other 1 out of that 10 is for a collection of random pictures of undead PCs which, y'know, fair. |

Pretty good had a couple characters interested for a bit but never really played out the charactors. Nothing really to complain about just didn't hold my players attention as much as I wished.

I think it is well written. I really like that the races are not over powered, but I do think Revenant is a little lacking.

Super creative and well executed! These undead races are rich in flavor and some even come along with racial feats. Having spent time looking on DMsGuild for undead player content, I can safely say this is the best option available for players.

A well built set of subraces with good balance. It feels very easy to make and use as a character. I haven't played a lot yet, but am planning to do more so. So far, the play is smooth and the race feels no more or less powerful than other races. The flavor of it is very nicely done and it makes me grin when I play it.

I just finished playing through some adventures on a podcast called "The Homebrew Review", where I was a guest. 5 episodes were recorded and they should be released roughly one month from today (Today: 30/04/2018).
I chose to play as the Awakened Undead (Skeleton), my main reasoning behind wanting to test this race out was for inclusion in my own personal home games. I was skeptical about the race at first glance, believing that a playable race with the Undead type would prove incredibly powerful due to it's immunity to different spells and effects.
HOW I WAS WRONG.
The race was very well balanced, the immunity to various effects was counterbalanced by the inability to be healed by the more common spells a party would be equipped with. Even with that being the case, my character only went unconcious once and that was at the VERY last moment of the final episode.
The races within are equipped with fun, and well thought-out abilities that bring a spark of fun to a race that may seem very macabre at first glance. My character used these abilities to incredible effect, and it added a ton of comedy to our already awesome game. Not to mention the incredible roleplay potential playing as an undead creature comes with, it didn't come up too much in our episodes but I can imagine that being a very large drive for story in any regular home game.
Walrock homebrew delivers another epic character option, 11/10.
