Powerchords: Music, Magic & Urban Fantasy reminded use o lot of the 1983 movie Rock & Rule. The author flawless brings both the setting of rock & roll fantasy and the rule mechanics to create an interesting and exciting game.

The Tabletop Gaming Club enjoyed this product and looks forward to using it again in the future for some one-shot games.

This book was a labor of love by the author "Satyros" Phil Brucato. There is his love for music all throught this book. It even reads and looks like a table music magazine. There is all sorts of quotes from various musicians about their craft in there and it is a great source material for those who are looking for musically inclined characters or to just WHAT GOES INTO being a musician and all that entitles. It isnt easy as this book states, it is long and demanding, frustrating and rewarding at the same time. If you have ever played musician characters and wanted to add an air of authenticity to them, then this book is for you.

In my view, the best part of this book is the path it illustrates from conceptualization of the character to expression of the character in terms of mechanics and rules. It does a remarkable job of illustrating that the duality of "crunch vs fluff" is not a foregone conclusion, and that you can find a balance between them in such a way that the roleplaying experience is enhanced.

A labor of love from an undisputed master of the RPG! Satyros Phil Brucato slams together rock and rpgs, stirs them in a mosh pit of magic, and creates a high-energy game. The pairing is so natural we have to wonder why no one thought of it before. The art is as dazzling as the writing, and the rules are tight and fast paced-- with an emphasis on playability. The lessons of earlier games like Mage are clearly on display here, as their excesses have been pared back to focus on compelling gameplay first and foremost. It's a number one hit.
