Being a huge fan of Chaosium's official Call of Cthulhu solo gamebooks, I was excited to find this for D&D 5e and honestly I'm blown away by what a great experience it was. It genuinely captures the joy of playing D&D and there were several moments from my successful playthrough that will stick in my brain as fantastic TTRPG memories, including striking down the BBEG with a single hit point remaining! I will definitely be purchasing the rest of the series to keep the adventures of my halfling paladin going!

I played with my partner as a series of fun date nights after our usual D&D group fell apart (scheduling...always scheduling). We played as two PCs without a DM, with me narrating the text and then us roleplaying together to go through the adventure. The module was simple to adjust for two players, as we scaled up enemy encounters and made "what would a DM do?" decisions when it came to things like one of us failing a stealth roll while the other succeeded. We really enjoyed the story and appreciated the inclusion of printable maps for our minifigs. Overall: solid pick for one or two players. Be prepared for tricky encounters and don't feel bad about needing to "restart" when you die. We are going to play the next adventures in the series and look forward to it!

This was my first experience into the D&D world. Not a lot of time to find a group due to work and famiy, so this solo story was perfect. Loved it so much I bought the next 3 stories in the series.

Solid piece. Not worth $30 book by any means. Good piece for $10 pdf.

I attempted to play dnd 18 years ago and couldn’t find anyone to play with. Over the past 3 or 4 years my interest has returned but it’s life’s obligations that have really made it tough to pursue.
I purchased a book called DM yourself to see how I could play a solo game and yesterday purchased the Death Knight’s Squire.
Its was an absolute enjoyment! I understood the basics of the game but having never played, this was a great introduction to dnd.
Absolutely great experience and I look forward to more solo adventures. Hopefully this turns into a game with other players in the future!

THAT was a lot of fun. I'm new to DnD, well...played ADnD back in the late 70s, have come back, and this was a really cool adventure. The PDF version works really well, and it's easy to move through the game. I was able to defeat the DK with HUGE rolls...out of my mind, and just one PC, elf fighter. Thanks for a great game, looking forward to TOZK!

im enjoying this! im on my second playthru because my first character died. On the 2nd play its easier to use some "common sense". For example, am am playing an aarokocra and instead of falling into a pit trap i thought, no i would have just flapped my wings. But i am enjoying it and really want to try thr higher level ones!

I had a lot of fun with this adventure. It was my first introduction into solo adventuring, and while I didn't feel like replaying it, I'm not a replayer in general, and the character I made eventually turned into a fairly well-liked NPC in the game I DM for.

My first experience with a 'solo 5e' adventure and I was not disappointed. My only complaint with this module was the keyword entry system rather than numbered entries which the author has changed in future releases. Because there is a lot to do, it is definitely replayable. My ending was satisfying but incomplete and left a great adventure hook.

A Death Knight should be way more dangerous - the stats have been watered down so that the Knight may be defeated more easily. Of course a DM or game designer might decide to adapt the monsters or bend a rule, but the hitpoints have been decreased A LOT (I was tempted to write the exact stats but I don't want to ruin the fun for anyone). A Death Knight is also meant to have a bunch of spells (again no spoilers).
- I walked straight into the Death Knight after what felt like a few rounds. I would have loved to play for at least three hours. I think it should be a bigger challenge to find the final encounter - it felt a bit like a walk in the park. My horse was killed right at the beginning and my Barbarian went from 22 - 9 HP. I was also lucky with a couple of D20:s but it still felt way too easy.
The storytelling was fine and I really like the system with the maps, so I might still try out other games from this series. I'm also thinking of using my own Monster Manual for calculating opponents - or swap to creatures with stats that match those given in the game.
Finally: I loved that someone designed a game that may be played with D&D 5E - I'm DM:ing two groups right now and it can be fun to be a solo player as well.

This adventure is interesting and well made, but also has some very railroaded moments with no way to oppose it.
For example, at one point your character is presented with choice: Agree or very high chance to die. No save, check or creative way to resolve the encounter. Ruined the fun for me.

I cannot recommend these books highly enough. I've been struggling to find a way to play D&D solo for years without success. These books are exactly what I was looking for and the amount of effort that has obviously gone into their creation shines through. Well worth the money.

My son and I decided to run this together (one PC where we talked about what the PC would do in the situation and move forward) and had tons of fun. It took us about 2 hours to play which was shorter than expected but still lots of fun. I could see that if we had made a different decision here or there, the adventure could have gone on quite a bit longer. We're considering playing it again with a different PC to see where the adventure leads us. I'm also planning to purchase the next adventure.
To the creator: I was hoping you would be able to send me a copy of the map(s) so I can run it for my D&D group of 4 PC's? Thank you!!!
