World's End Masque & Ball

Highly Recommend! This is a beautifully executed one-off game--it hits its mark on being scary and tense, and it is the perfect amount of compact for a one-shot. (Our group, with three players, was able to comfortably play the four in-game hours in real time)

I was able to put together this adventure with less than two hours prep time, and I don't feel the game suffered for it. All the detail I needed was there, and it was easy to navigate.

I loved the characters each having their own mission, and giving the players the ability to award themselves inspiration according to their character traits. Because of this, despite the players not knowing anything about their characters beforehand, they still felt like characters.

The map was somewhat confusing, but luckily it didn't impact play in any meaningful way. (Edit; for the Creator: Running the adventure from my computer, and thus being confined to a slightly smaller scale, some of the symbols are difficult to read on the fly (especially Locked vs Unlocked doors). The main hangup we had was figuring the rectangular stairs on the ground and first floors and where exactly they lead to. Some of the stairs correlate 1 to 1 with where they emerge on the next floor, and other stairs don't. (Which probably means that they simply don't lead to a different floor, but is confusing when you're trying to make quick reference) I also would have prefered the room descriptions to not be split with part above the map, and part below, but I fully realize that this is preference, and is less space efficient.)

  • Great if you're looking for a scary one-shot
  • Great if you're looking for a one-shot with minimal prep
  • Great if you're looking for an adventure that skews roleplay heavy

  • Best for GMs who feel comfortable filling in blanks and making decisions on the fly
  • Best for players who are comfortable with a challenge -- the deck is not stacked in their favor! (In my group of three, only one extremely lucky player made it out alive)
  • Best for groups who are comfortable with players being somewhat independent (rather than playing as a party-unit from start to finish)

Thanks so much for the lovely review! Do you have any suggestions for how I could make the map less confusing? I plan on releasing a slightly updated version of the adventure, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Really thoroughly enjoyed this adventure--I'd happily run it again!

Thematically very intersting and fun, a solid choice for any games that are interested in dabbling with the fae. Groups with particularly clever players will likely find this adventure extra fun to play around in.

This adventure does a good job of having both depth and variety of things to do and ways to interact; it feels well rounded to play. (The roleplay, combat, and exploration opportunities are all equally interesting and satisfying.)

My group got a solid three sessions from it (roughly 12 hours), this game has got plenty to give!
