Rob has done a truly remarkable job with this fantasy grounds module. The coding of the effects is a fantastic time saver for both players and GM alike, especially if you dont want to learn how to code effects yourself. This module does not replace the need for things like the PHB but compliments it by providing the lists of class abilities that you can simply drag into the action tab of your character, but more than just listing the abilites the effect codings have been set up in the background so that when you use the ability the effects are automatically applied.
Is this useful? You bet it is. A very simple example is the fighter combat superiority ability Commander's strike. Which allows you as part of an attack to use a bonus action to command an ally to immediately strike and granting them additional 1d8 damage.
Quite a bit to factor in and remember right? With Rob's module this becomes a breeze, with just a few short steps
- Make your attack as normal.
- Target your ally
- In the action tab select combat superiority and click the effect button
- Your ally then makes his attack and when he rolls his damage the 1d8 extra damage is automatically added, and the effect removed from him.
Wow that makes things simple, and this is just one example of the many many class powers Rob has coded for you.
Not only that but as a relative new comer I was initially confused some of the abilities and how to use them. Was I left struggling and confused? no way a quick message to Rob and I was up and running in no time.
So why only 4 stars? Well it would be nice to have a little guide as part of the download a how to install the module and perhaps a bit of a heads up on counters and that these are more for manual tracking of the use of powers. He does include some good info in the story of the module, but of course this means it needs to be loaded first :o) and this is certainly not a deal breaker.
Would I buy it again? Yes definately
Value for Money? Yes, considering the hours put into this, and the time it saves it is worth every penny.
Woud I try his other stuff? Well I can't talk about his adventures but based on this module I would definately try out his other FG coding modules.
