ZWEIHANDER RPG: Early Access

The book is an outstanding example of dedication and passion. I prise the author for it.

Reading trough it, though, I've found the overall system to be a bit weak and undecided on what it want to be: new wave or old style. It claims to be an update of the old WFRP, yet I've found lots of added systems and mechanics that should incentivate the roleplaying (like burning reputation for favours). These are cool, but a bit too simplified and underdeveloped.

Rules like madness are there, but lack the flavour and didn't catch my immagination. The character profiles are not as immidiate as it seems at first glance.

I found combat really under-developed, and quite a step back from WFRP 1st/2nd. Injuries in threshold is quite simplified. No more hit locations and by-the-piece armours. Weapons seems a bit missing something. The infamous critical tables mainly trainslate in three tables (divided by weapon type) describing gory details of when a foe is slain. The actual critical tables are much less flavourful and not divided by weapon type. The addition of "Perilous stuns": why should a disarm fall in such a thing? Seems a pure gamist choice, and brake the flow of something gritty and realistic. Again, I see a bit of contraddiction on what the system wants to be.

Book organization is a bit confusing First chapters are so full of text and "narrative" that it seemed to me to have read a long time before reaching interesting stuff. Other examples are Critical tables are on the GM chapter, not combat.

The games seems that wants to be a bit of everything but, personally, I think fall a bit short: is not a new wave RPG nor an actual WFRP facelift. I think is more than a decent game but, if I have to regard it as a WFRP spiritual successer, I'm not convinced.

Thanks for the review. Somply put: this game isn't for everyone. It is by design an exceptions-based RPG in the vein of Fantasy Flight's Rogue Trader and WFRP 40k. However, the vast majority of our playtesters, supporters on Kickstarter and forum-goers disagree with your sentiment that this isn't a spiritual successor to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. I would encourage you to run the playtest adventure "A Bitter Harvest" to understand the context of what we were aiming for. In motion, the game plays differently than you would infer from a breeze-through of the PDF. As a correction, hit locations and piecemeal armor options are in the GM's section, as are distinct weapon damage values. You'll also find that critical hits are by weapon type.

Well, the system seems a waterd down d20 OGL but, per se, isn't a bad thing.

It seems to borrows idea from this or that system mixing them in an unispiring way. The combat is really without inspiration and the armor, at leat for me, is something that needs seriours reworking, especially since the growing skill will make the amout of damage reduction useless.

The criticals based on naturals rolls and not on skill level is really an old idea and, imho, should be dropped.

All in all the works isn't bad, it's just another d20 system and the market is full of d20 systems.

There are interesting points that you can use to build an unique and interesting system.

First of all, I would like to thank you very much for taking the time to write a review on this document! You raise some interesting points which we will surely take into account for the next release of this PDF. As mentioned in the product description, this was a test to see if we can write rules, so we are equally grateful for both negative and positive comments. You are right, d20 systems are full of stereotypes which we tried to mix with random ideas, crudely. The result would have been better if we had retained the new ideas and worked with an original system from the ground up, which is what we have been doing lately. Again, thank you very much for your constructive criticism! Best regards.

Very good ship and design. I was expecting something little bigger (for my lost-in-space campagin) but it's an excellent work!

Last of a series of "graphics" bundle I (hoped) wanted to use on a big project, this page portfolio is nothing exceptional.

Amateurish and unispired, the work is still competent.

Terrible! Some "triangle" attached on some "lines" on the bottom and on the header of the page.

This type of works aren't even amateurish. Sorry, but this is rubbish.

Although I'm sorry you weren't pleased with the product, your review also misrepresents its contents and this must be clarified for other customers. The images are not just "some 'triangle' attached on some 'lines' on the bottom and the header of the page," as you choose to describe the product. There are 5 variations on a similar theme provided in both portrait and landscape: that of a bar/stick along the page bottom and top between which are strung two banners with triangular pennants strung between. Each variation also includes its own scrollwork image to be used as a background for sidebars. Although not everyone will like every product, the truncated description contained in your review seems to be that you didn't like that the product delivered what was portrayed in the example image you were able to see before making your purchase (not to mention the PDF preview providing a sample of each variation, in portrait format and at full size, that was provided on the page for you to review before buying the product.)

I've bought all these covers as boundle. Really sad.

The different coloration of the "leather bound" cover are really of the lowest quality. The leatherbound background, if I'm not mistaken, is taken from something is found online.

What to say... I've read some of the book and that some isn't very clear. It's very complex and I don't see how the realism benefit from this.

It's has some very interesting options to include in home systems or house rules.

The combat rules are above average but the real-time system is a bit slow.

LIKED: The separate booklet are interesting and very useful. It's a interesting equipment section. Magics isn't bad.

DISLIKED: The system is too complex and I don't see how realism benefit from this.
