Zombie Pirates Plus [BUNDLE]
Publisher: Pinnacle Entertainment
by Alex P. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/27/2011 07:15:59

There are two products in this bundle.

The Pirates of the Spanish Main is a good rpg with fun flavor using the quick and easy Savage Worlds rules.

Zombie Pirates might be good, it might not be. I have no idea. The DRM prevented me from being able to ever activate the thing. According to the software's sales department, their servers were having trouble. And have been since my purchase of the game.

OVERALL: This is probably worth the price for The Pirates of the Spanish Main rpg. The DRM/registration servers for Zombie Pirates didn't work for me.

Fantasy Court Set
Publisher: Arion Games
by Alex P. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/10/2009 09:31:19

This is an excellent, versatile set and complements the Medieval Court set very well. The models are excellent, with a younger princess than in other Arion Sets, a King that could function easily as noble monarch or arrogant despot, and a Captain of the Guard that looks particularly heroic with his helmet off. The wizard looks like a bookish fellow and not the power behind the throne, and I'm not sure I'd like a cook who doesn't button his shirt. The servant and guards all look competent, however. All the guard poses are well done and each varies in either pose or equipment enough to make them all individuals.

If this isn't enough, the variance in this set's heraldry from the FREE Medieval Court Set allows for all sorts of gaming possibilities: opposing kingdoms, in-court competition or conspiracy, or--with a little customization of the powerpoint file--a homemade chess set for $0.50 plus FREE. GOOD: Everything

BAD: My wife's reaction to the cook

OVERALL: It would be silly to pass this up. At this price, the set is a steal.

This is the usual quality Arion work and a delightfully focused set. And it's free. The only improvement would be a powerpoint set, but it's free which makes it a bit hard to complain about.

Liked: Price. The nifty Chamberlain figure with excellent natural, flowing robes, the stern Captain of the Guard, and lovely queen. The price is unbeatable.

Disliked: No powerpoint version for customization.

Well, the dislike is easy to fix! We have now uploaded a powerpoint version, which should be available for those who already have it, as well as those who get it anew.

Kids, Castles, & Caves Deluxe Set [BUNDLE]
Publisher: Brave Halfling Publishing
by Alex P. [Verified Purchaser]

This is a very simple role-playing game based on the basic D&D/LotR archetypes. There are a couple levels of character advancement available, and a decent variety of monsters to fight. The rules are simple--my six-year-old and my eight-year-old both grasped it quickly enough to convince my four-year-old to join in. Their universal verdict was to ask if we could play it again.

The bonus paper-minis and play mats from Arion Games are part of what sold the game. My kids loved picking their character, cutting them out, and gluing/taping them together. They are of a slightly different (simpler) style than Arion's usual minis but work well enough alongside the usual product line.

Pros: Simple, kid-friendly rules. Enough of a framework to provide quite a lot of entertainment, especially with a little tweaking. The Arion-Game paper minis add a crafty, visual element that extends the appeal to kids even further.

Cons: The fairy princess was pretty powerful and a brilliant addition but my girls grew tired of her--I think the wand proved to be an unsatisfying weapon with only one dice roll while everyone else was getting to roll twice.

Bonus: The basic addition and counting involved (we used pennies to keep track of health and nickels for "play points") provided my kindergartner with a wonderful opportunity to review and develop the basic math skills they are working on in school.

King Arthur Set
Publisher: Arion Games
by Alex P. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/25/2008 20:01:05

Overall a rather nice product. Good variety.

LIKED: Multiple costumes/poses for characters like Arthur and Lancelot. Each of the knights is distinctive and fun. The Green Man is great. Also liked the monsters. There is a good number of different models--enough to run most any Arthurian or fantasy knight campaign.

DISLIKED: Some of the horses look strange, i.e. Arthur's is disproportionate and Mordred's has an almost Manga-style spikey mane along with a very bizarre armor harness. The Questing Beast is also very bizarre and doesn't seem to fit the genre. The Black Knights aren't very black.

Overall, there is a wonderful variety of poses and character designs. While a couple of the models are off-putting, the vast majority are fantastic. Several of the miniatures even seem to exude the personality of the character portrayed therein!

This is a very nicely rendered set. The figures are well detailed and attractive.

LIKED: I especially like the 3-sided versions. They are a bit classier than your usual paper mini, and the mounted fighter looks great.

DISLIKED: The female paladin looks a bit like an anemic Joan of Arc when on horseback.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Satisfied
