I can't say enough good things about the Arion paper figures. The artwork is glorious, and the inclusion of bi-fold and tri-old figures is a great plus. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. A stellar effort, which is all I'd ever expect from Arion Games.

I am running an educational game in for my homeschooled son. I was concerned that using my usual collection of orcs and goblins, etc. would ruin the mood of a historical game. I was very excited to find these, and love the historical accuracy of the figures. I'm looking for an excuse to purchase more minis from them.

Excellent figures. High quality work. I would like to see some "notable" personalities in Biblicals 2.

Excellent value for you money. Arion Games is a great source for inexpensive, light weight and hard-to-find props. Their historical, medieval, pulp, modern and scifi paper minis look good and add an extra element to gaming. I use both plastic/metal minis and paper minis. The option of flat or tri-fold is great- the tri-fold fit better with the 3D minis i have, but the option for flat is nice to have.

My beef with most "biblicals" miniatures sets I've run across is that they never seem to include the Hebrews. This one has a Jewish high priest, prophet, shepherd, and a couple other generic civilian types. That's certainly an improvement. However, all the warriors are Assyrian or Persian. There's not a Philistine giant, sword-slinging Joshua or Gideon, or slingshot-packing shepherd boy in the bunch. It's sort of a catch-all set, trying to include several different ancient cultures without giving us as much of each as we might want. As with other Arion Games offerings, this one provides a good variety of character types for the role-player but not enough soldiers for the wargamer seeking to create an army. The illustrations are colorful and detailed.
The Good: Provides a variety of beautiful character types, including Hebrews
The Bad: Doesn't give us enough figures to fully represent each of the three cultures included

Thanks for the very balanced review.
One problem with creating a set such as this is the target market. A whole set of hebrews is probably too specialised for many gamers, but a general set does not have enough of each. Some play only historical games and do not want mythological creatures, whilst others must have creatures!
That said, there is a second set of biblicals on the way this year, and we also have a very exciting project in the works that will be of interest. In the meantime, you may also want to check out Targum magazine (available from this site) as we have provided quite a few biblical miniatures for that.
As an aside, i noticed that your email address is set to hidden under the publisher contact options. If you want to email me, i can send you a password for the bonus area of our website with loads of freebies.

If you are like this reviewer, you have neither the desire, nor space, nor cash, to ?collect? traditional miniatures. Yet, with the tactical combat systems used in many game systems these days, being able to bust out the battle mat and a set of minis is often necessary. Thus you find yourself looking for a practical and inexpensive option for your miniatures needs. Paper miniatures meet this need. When they are packaged as a PDF, you are provided with a readily available source of minis for your games, being able to print as many of a particular figure as you need, without having to invest too much money in them, or time and effort, in the case of those who paint their minis. In short, paper minis are an attractive option for their low cost and convenience, and are also logical options for ?collectors? needing a particular miniature, or several of them, for their game.
The figures in Arion Games? miniatures sets come in 3 styles, ?A-frame?, ?Flat?, and ?Triagonal?. The ?A-frame? and ?Flat? figures can be constructed from the same sheets, depending on how they are cut out. The ?Triagonal? minis are constructed from a separate sheet. These construction choices provide additional options in preparing your minis for use in the game, major characters or monsters can be constructed as the ?Triagonal? versions to provide a more visual flair, and to emphasize their importance. Other figures can be done as ?A-Frame? or flat versions to make them easier to handle or distinguish them from each other, thus providing a functional use beyond their graphical characteristics. Vehicles done as Triagonal versions of the minis work very well, giving a better impression of their relative size.
The instructions, which are not included in this PDF, but are available on the publisher?s website, are easy to follow and assembling the minis is quick and painless, just requiring a bit of work with scissors and some glue. The minis look good, even when printed on plain paper. Each figure is drawn from a 3D rendering (done in Poser using figures provided by DAZED, according to the credits), providing sharp detail and life-like shading, even when printed.
This 3 page PDF (4 with cover) provides a set of 18 figures. Including one Assyrian Archer, two Assyrian Warriors (one armed with sword and one with spear), one High Priest figure, two Biblical Men (commoners) figures, two Persian Archers, two Persian Soldiers (one with axe, one with spear), one Shepherd figure (sheep not included), two Biblical Women commoner figures, and a Prophet figure. And 3 ?vehicle? figures, an Assyrian Chariot, a Persian Camelrider, and a Biblical man mounted on donkey
Overall, this is a solid product from Arion Games. It provides a nice selection of figures to use in biblical/ancient settings. The figures look good, and can be used in other ancient inspired games. Adding in the fact that you can print as many as you need, and prepare your own figure sheets, this is excellent value as well. If you are looking to do any biblical or other ancient era gaming, this would be a solid choice.

Biblicals Set is the 33rd product in Arion Games' line of paper miniature sets, and is sixth in the Ancients Miniatures series within that product line. Each product in a set contains a number of paper miniatures based on a theme. The miniatures can be folded in a variety of different configurations depending on preference. The Biblicals Set contains a number of miniatures useful for the period 1000 BC to Roman times, focusing in particular on the Persian and Assyrian empires.
This set comes as a single 4 page pdf file. No instructions are included on how to assemble the set, although these are available from Arion Games' website. Miniatures can be folded in three different ways according to the instructions - A-frame, Flat or triagonal, with the latter being a pseudo-3D fold where the miniature has three sides. Paper clips can be used to hold the miniatures in place or they can be glued normally and weighed down for stability. Folding and mounting the miniatures is straightforward, and with a good printing you can make full use of the quality images provided. Within a few minutes you can have an entire Assyrian army available.
The set contains one page that details the A-frame or flat miniatures (both folds use the same images) and the triagonal miniatures take up the two remaining pages of the pdf. The following miniatures are included in the set: two Assyrian warriors (one with sword, one with shield and spear), Assyrian archer, high priest, two biblical men (simple male commoners dressed in the robes of the time), two Persian archers (one with bow drawn back, the other holding a bow), Persian axeman (with shield), Persian spearman (with shield), prophet (with only a loin-cloth as expected), shepherd (with obligatory staff), and two biblical woman (in colorful dresses). There are also three larger models, which include a donkey riding biblical man, a Persian camelrider (with spear and shield), and an Assyrian horse-drawn chariot.
The images are of a very high quality, and this set contains a good variety of interesting miniatures with detailed equipment and clothing. There's a good balance between the different aspects of the set, such as warriors and commoners. These miniatures will be useful for any game set in ancient times, or for example with games such as Green Ronin's Testament. The chariot and camel rider in particular are good, although it would've been nice to see something more done with the horse than a simple saddle. Overall I was pleased with this set - it contains splendid artwork and miniatures, a good variety and detailed images for each miniature. The triagonal miniatures are very good and allow one to appreciate the detail that has gone into the rendering of each image.<br><br>
<b>LIKED</b>: This is a very good set of miniatures from Arion Games. Rendering and image quality is excellent, and the miniatures contain good balance, variety and detail. While focused on the Assyrians and Persians, the miniatures are easily used in other cultures or for other purposes.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Nothing much to dislike with this set. In one or two places the miniatures could've used some more detail, such as the chariot's horse or the biblical man on the donkey, but otherwise a very good set.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>
