I have run Night of the Rise, The Throne of Bone and House of the Midnight Violet so far. All three were huge hits.

Night of the Rise I ran with a group of 8, 4 of whom were newer players and 1 was a totally newbie but everyone had a blast and the play was hysterical. I had a couple of players in charge of "music" and "sound effects" which were whatever they could do with whatever they had. Loads of fun.

Throne of Bone was with one of my groups of regular players. They got stumped with one puzzle then laughed themselves silly/felt utterly idiotic when they finally realized the answer was staring them in the face. I played it pretty dark so the laugh moment was very welcomed by all. They still talk about that moment and it has been at least a year since I ran it. Ended up starting us on a short adventure campaign. Very fun, easy to understand, written in a way that I was able to run it with minimal prep.

The House of the Midnight Violet was also extremely well recieved. I inserted it into a short adventure arc with a group of 9 players, some of whom were guests of more seasoned players and had no experience with DnD before. It was easy to rebalance for a larger group, very well laid out, players were engaged and they all had a lot of fun. Sadly we had to rush the ending a bit but I would definitely run it again with a new group. Well written and laid out.

All in all, these three one shots were well written, easy to run and engaging for my players (regardless of experience level/play style). I highly recommend them.

I DMed the following modules:

  • Night of the Rise: Great module, simple hook but the play was a brand new experience for all players. We still reminisce of how crappy that play went but how much fun it was.

  • Screams at Sunset: Great module again, modified the FG mod to match the higher player level with Orcs. Flows well, some good interactions with NPCs, interesting choices. I used the old fort as an Acq Inc franchise location by adding franchise papers in the final vault.

  • Throne of bone: 2 thirds in, having a lot of fun, interaction with the farmers was very cool, the cleric wants to elope with the old lady farmer because she gave him the recipe lol. The puzzles are fairly easy, the first one can be a bit hard to RP, but it keeps the pace going. Looking forward to the throne room!

I'll update as I go.

Since this is a collection, and I'm not able to write reviews for individual adventures, I'll separate the ones I've run here.

Screams at Sunset -- I've ran this twice, and it strikes a great balance among the pillars of play. There is a natural flow to the narrative, and roleplaying the ending is always a good time (among the drunk enemies and at the vault entrance). my players liked this one a lot (each time).

Secret of Karnov Mansion -- I'm running this one again tonight! It has been probably a year since I ran it last time, and my players still talk about "that one where we went to dinner with the were-tiger family" I'm updating things for the halloween holiday, but i had a blast with this one too. The unique personalities of the family are fun to RP, as well as the idea for a modified 'zoo' in the backyard of some aristrocrat is a juicy concept.

Throne of bone -- my wife DM'd this one last week (i got to play), and that was a tough but thrilling romp! (two PCs at 8th level--luckily i was a cleric). and to top it off, we both sat on the throne at the end -- and without spoiling too much, we both ended up with some unexpected (and dramatic) results! the look on my friend's face when her beautiful and glamorous centaur turned into a duergar was priceless!!! great fun.

Night of the Rise -- unfortunately, i haven't had a chance (timing not right in our campaign(s) to do it yet) to run this one...but I've read it through about a half dozen times and I am so so excited for the day when i can run this one. The concept is classic and hilarioius, and i can't help but wonder how my murderhobo group will handle it all. Great opportunities for hilarious roleplay in this one.

This is a great set of adventures! I ran Screams at Sunset for a level 3 party including two kids. It was very easy to work it into our homebrew campaign. It took us 3 sessions to complete 3 hours/3 hours/2 hours. I really liked that there were lots of hooks to use for many other adventures and tangents. The NPCs were well described and easy to roleplay. My players really liked all the skills checks and puzzling together the mystery. I really liked that there were lots of non-combat options the characters could pursue. The module provides maps, monster stat blocks and lots of suggestions. It is well written and easy to follow.

The module suggests a linking this adventure with others leading to the Throne of Bone which is what I did - the party is finding pieces of the key in various places and one character is plagued by nightmares of the throne.

I definitely recommend this set!

This is a great collection of adventures. I really liked the fact that I could use so many that would only take one or two sessions for my group. They are well written. My gaming group has enjoyed several of these immensely. There's lots of action but also lots of places where the players have to think.

I ran the adventure, "Throne of Bone," found in this collection last June. It was simply fantastic in every way. My players enjoyed the Gruff Dwarf door and all of the thought provoking challenges along the way. I used Jeff's adventure as my base, and then changed or adapted the game to my style of play. I found that all of Jeff's notes, suggestions, and maps were a huge help. I would highly recommend this product to any DM.

I would dare you to find a better collection of short adventures for this low of a price. I have enjoyed reading these, and I want to run some of these adventures if I get a chance. So many good ideas packed into one place.

So far, I've only use The Night of the Rise as a one-shot in my current campaign. This one adventure is easily worth the price of the entire collection! My players thoroughly enjoyed it I had a blast running it.

The Night of the Rise offers a lot of potential for fun role-playing. My group is always more tentative at that and typically just wants to go into an adventure and hack and slash. Most of them, being new players, it's understandable they are a bit tentative to get immersed into the role-playing aspect. This adventure changed that! This group actually got up... and ACTED out the parts of the included mini-play and it was fabulous and hilarious! I had no choice but to give them inspiration and it was well worth it. The rogue and bard in the group even came up with a fun opening act! The group also came up with an ingenious way to take care of the bandit problem.

Kudos to the author and if the other included adventures are half as fun as The Night of the Rise, this collection is easily an incredible bargain.

I used this kit to start my first campaign! It was super easy to fit into the world I wanted to make myself and some of the characters have become main NPC's in the guild my characters come from! Thank you a ton!

Well worth the price

I bought this collections of adventures to flesh out my campaign with some smaller storylines and I can say I am not dissapointed. Having read through the adventures, there is a lot of great content you can use for sidequests or, with a little work (and using the tip in the Throne of Bone adventure) you could string the stories together to form a decent campaign.

The stories are interesting and I think they will provide many hours of entertaining play and can be very easily modified to fit your particular campaign setting if needs be.

The maps are an old school style, simplistic but very functional. I like to draw my own maps so I'm basically using them as a blueprint but they are certainly nice enough to use by themselves.

For the price I paid I'll be getting weeks and weeks of content that will entertain my players, absolutely no complaints at all. Highly recommended.
