I ran this quite a while back and forgot to review it. My players had a blast. They want to go back. We just haven't had a chance. I love the structure and flexibility of the material and how easy it would be to insert in a campaign, run with various types of PCs, and so on. Great product!

These maps have been incredibly useful. I am grateful for the time and effort put into creating these maps.

I've been using these maps for quite a while now and realized I hadn't written a review. Just wanted to say these are great. I have all 4 levels put out so far. Had a bit of an issue with printing to scale but overall they have been incredibly useful. I keep them in sturdy clear plastic sleaves so we can draw on them as needed.

I've loved your battle maps. I hope more people will become aware of them and purchase them. I have found them quite useful.

So far I have really enjoyed having these flavor text boxes to refer to when I don't have the time or mental energy to come up with my own. They are creative, well organized and I appreciate having a table of contents as well. My one irritation is that I can't print the document without burning through a ton of unnecessary ink. I would deeply apprecaite it if a "printer friendly" version were made available. Meaning, it would be a great help if a version were made available that did not have a colored background and a lot of colorful graphics. While I appreciate those things (as do many of us), ink is expensive. Products that provide the colorful version and a printer friendly version are always more welcome and more likely for me to use than one that only provides the colorful version.

Thank you so much for the feedback! Your timing is absolutely impeccable. I read this comment just as I was getting ready to start formatting Level 6 (which will release later this week). It was super easy to do a format that will be printer-friendly, so that chapter will include the regular version and a printer-friendly one (the file has pf at the end). If you happen to pick it up, please comment and let me know how it works for you! I'll work over the next week or two on formatting levels 1-5 in a similar manner. |

Actually, please disregard my previous comment about waiting to check out the printer-friendly version for Level 6. It was an easy enough fix that I was able to update all past Levels with a pf version today. You should see it posted now (or soon, I don't know how long the site takes to post update files). Enjoy! |

I have not yet run this but have read through it and am prepping it. It looks fun, there are lots of support materials for the DM, maps and so on. I really like the list of ways to introduce the adventure. Breaking it up into three parts works very well narratively and helps with prep. The reason for the adventure is creative and not so run of the mill. I like the interesting combination of things to deal with and battle. I think my players will enjoy it. This also ties in well for anyone traveling in Waterdeep, especially for groups using Waterdeep Dragon Heist, but it could easily be put into any urban adventure. It appears well laid out.
I have a few caveats, mostly minor.
- Although this takes place in the House Phylund mausoleum, the background story doesn't seem to tie directly to canon material for this House. It could easily be made to work, though. (Maybe I missed some canon info somewhere so I could be wrong.) For those wanting canon lore you may need to tweak or add to the information available. Not much tweaking required, though, I don't think, unless one of your PCs is from House Phylund, in which case you might want to dig a bit deeper.
- There does not appear to be a printer friendly version. Fancy colored backgrounds and so on look great BUT when trying to print them out it really eats up ink. I encourage all creators to make a printer friendly version as well as the more colorful version. Hopefully a printer friendly version will be made available at some point.
- Also, it made little sense to me that with so many people coming to the City of the Dead, including tourists, that Razorvine would be allowed to grow. I have decided to tweak this one part in particular since my players like things to be logical and the City of the Dead is a place they have visited before and are rather fond of.
Anyway, overall I like it and look forward to running it.

Just thought I would finally write a review. I have run nearly everything in this collection at one point or another, some multiple times, and every single one I have found easy to run, engaging for the players and a nice balance of the three pillars. I recommend this collection over and over to anyone who wants a well written group of one shots with a lot of variety. Even though it has been a really long time since I bought this set, I still find it enjoyable to run these. Thank you M.T. Black for your quality work.

I have run Night of the Rise, The Throne of Bone and House of the Midnight Violet so far. All three were huge hits.
Night of the Rise I ran with a group of 8, 4 of whom were newer players and 1 was a totally newbie but everyone had a blast and the play was hysterical. I had a couple of players in charge of "music" and "sound effects" which were whatever they could do with whatever they had. Loads of fun.
Throne of Bone was with one of my groups of regular players. They got stumped with one puzzle then laughed themselves silly/felt utterly idiotic when they finally realized the answer was staring them in the face. I played it pretty dark so the laugh moment was very welcomed by all. They still talk about that moment and it has been at least a year since I ran it. Ended up starting us on a short adventure campaign. Very fun, easy to understand, written in a way that I was able to run it with minimal prep.
The House of the Midnight Violet was also extremely well recieved. I inserted it into a short adventure arc with a group of 9 players, some of whom were guests of more seasoned players and had no experience with DnD before. It was easy to rebalance for a larger group, very well laid out, players were engaged and they all had a lot of fun. Sadly we had to rush the ending a bit but I would definitely run it again with a new group. Well written and laid out.
All in all, these three one shots were well written, easy to run and engaging for my players (regardless of experience level/play style). I highly recommend them.

Worth the price!
Things I loved about this:
- Creative ideas for continuing the story after DH main story is over.
- The possibility of saving the twins.
- Great ideas for adventure hooks
- Very specific and clear changes listed for Dragon Heist to make this work well
- Great list of breadcrumbs to incorporate if you are only just starting DH but want to do Cruel Summer after the main story is done.
- Really useful breakdown of events by day that will help keep things moving quickly/add urgency but are flexible enough to change as needed for specific campaigns.
- List of events going on in various places in the City, many of which will happen regardless of what the players do. (This really helps give the city a feeling of actually existing as well as helping with adding to the campaign)
- Very well laid out and useful Appendices
And so on. Honestly there is a LOT here. This document is 41 pages long. Well worth the price. Definitely. 100%. Frankly, I think it is worth more. This is a detailed, complex adventure that the creator has obviously put significant time and effort into.
And that is something that DMs need to really be aware of. This is not something easily tossed into the mix on the fly. If you are just wanting a quick way to end the Cassalanter story with a way to save the twins, this is not it. This has a ton of meat to it but to do this justice, DMs need to actually read through the material, which is extensive. It is laid out well, it is easy to find information, the whole premise is great but there is just a lot here. Sometimes that's what we need as DMs. Sometimes we need something fast and short. Just want to make sure people are clear on what they are getting.
On a side note, there is a lot here that could be mined for other things, too, instead of using it strictly as written. I like versatility in a product.

Thanks for the great review, and for the word of caution about preparation- I'm glad you pointed that out! You're absolutely right that it's going to take some planning for a DM to incorporate this into their campaign. I hope you and your party enjoy it!

This resource has been enormously helpful as a DM. The table of contents is easy to use, there is a really nicely done explanation page at the front to tell a DM how to get maximum use from this resource, each location/encounter is structured very consistently so it is easy to find the info you need when you need it, each encounter has clever elements that make them each unique even when using the same basic location, there are multiple locations/encounters to choose from, descriptions/information are (for the most part) clear and brief but still have flavor and "meat" to them, at the front of each encounter is a rapid quick read rundown that tells the DM useful info without having to read through the entire encounter (including the tone and whether the encounter is more combat or social or mixed), and the maps are pretty easy to use. Best of all, there is so much here, it will be useful for years to come. Overall, a very well done product. I recommend it.

Easy to use and creative. Gives great mix and match 3 part names, plus very helpful and creative drink descriptions and effects as well as more detailed tables for more dramatic/funny/dangerous potential effects. The tables are well laid out. I have used this product several times now and still find it helpful, easy to implement on the fly, creative and just generally fun to have in my toolbox.

There are so many levels to DotMM and I had been concerned about being able to quickly reference prior level NPCs etc as we delve further in. This helps a lot with having a quick list I can refer back to as needed without having to dig through a lot of notes that also gives me space to add in my own information. Having the Suggestions and lists of useful magic as well as the random NPC name tables was also incredibly helpful. Providing a more blank template as well as the filled in lists is such a useful resource as well. I will happily continue to use this product.

Things I loved:
Clear, concise, easy to reference list of the Residents/locations of TSA;
Really nice NPC descriptions/shop descriptions/backgrounds that expand a LOT on the DH book (makes it more like a real place);
Great suggestions for Adventure hooks;
Maps that break up the alley into East and West and are clearly laid out;
Very helpful maps of TSM that are a bit different from the standard options and include rundown/renovated but not furnished/furnished. SOOOOOOO helpful, especially since my group decided they didn't want to run a tavern and they didnt' want to spend money on furniture right away but wanted an updated map of TSM after it had been fixed up.
My group does a lot of shopping for some reason. They also tend to like real estate. I knew they were going to want to explore TSA in more detail but I really didn't have time to prep each and every building here. Having more detail/options already created made it so much easier for me, as DM, to just plop in that information (modified for our specific situation as needed) whenever they suddenly decide to do more exploring in their "neighborhood". The material is easy to use, creative, adds a lot of great flavor and includes quite a bit of useful information for so many locations in TSA. Very flexible, too. I actually put this whole thing in a separate notebook and keep track of conversations/things purchased in TSA/etc. in there as well. Because of the great material here the PCs decided to get side jobs here in TSA which has been lots of fun, too. I highly recommend this product. It helps make TSA seem more like a real place.

My players got to use the sheet this last week and had a blast betting on another party going into Undermountain. I love the idea and the layout. My only suggestion is maybe a more detailed explanation sheet for how it works. For those of us who don't normally gamble it took a bit to figure out how it worked. Really cool product, though, and I am very happy I bought it. I also loved that there was one filled in for the group that plays a part later in Mad Mage, as well as the blank one, and that there was a printer friendly version as well as the fancier one. All in all I would be happy to buy something like this for other situations as well.

Ran this last week, although in modified form. It was well laid out and enjoyable to run. In our personal story Dasher is actually a friend of one of the PCs so I modified it to make it more of a genuine rescue mission and changed one trap but otherwise used it pretty much as written. I had to throw the session together at the last minute because of a change in schedule. This helped so much. Clearly written/laid out Stats, maps, descriptions, flavor, were easy to skim through right before the session and easy to access/modify on the fly while in game so as to fit our specific story, etc. All in all, a very fine product. One side note: If your PCs are very low level, especially if there aren't very many of them, keep an eye on the Shard Shunner's leader. She has some spells that could theoretically create a TPK, depending on circumstance. I would definitely buy more products like this one.
