Fantastic little adventure, allows the players space to create a moral problem for themselves, like not looking before you fireball. Scales well for any level, just drop out thugs and get more Bandit Captains and the odd Master Thief. Will definitely run this one again.

Fun to run, with a different twist. DMS Guild thinks this review needs to be longer, but I don't want to give the twist away.

A great adventure, ran it as a one shot with 4 players but could definitely see throwibg this into a longer campaign as a fun side quest. The module provides enough structure to give you an outline but freedom to play around with outcomes.

My players loved it! Most of them were first timers or very new to D&D, and they went through the adventure nearly without getting into combat. They loved the intruige that unfolded before them!

I recently ran this adventure for my group. We are in the middle of a long campaign but I needed a break from content creation. This was a super fun, well written and interesting little adventure.

We ran it in one session, the party had created level 1 characters before we started playing. It was played online, theatre of the mind only. The players were not allowed to say what characters they were creating, so when four non magic users turned up for the job they were a bit worried. But this adventure worked really well without magic.

The twists were fun and didn't feel forced at all.

Jeff is an amazing content producer and this will not be the last adventure of his i run.

Just played this with my group. We all enjoyed it!

Pros
  • Non-combat. It's refreshing to see adventures that don't focus on combat. This adventure has the potential for combat, but sly parties can avoid it.
  • Unique ideas. It's a cleverly-written scenario that encourages various hi-jinks while still remaining plausible.
  • Excellent maps. In colour, black-and-white, and in high enough res for digital tabletops.
  • Value for Money. $5 will buy you a session that should last at least three hours. (My group probably took about five.)
  • Setting-Neutral. Fits into most any campaign setting.
Cons
  • Broad Level Scaling. The adventure is recommended for levels 1 through 6 but the enemies don't change to match. This isn't too much of a problem as combat is not the optimal solution. But it could make combat lethal for level 1s or trivial for level 6s. A good DM can compensate by adjusting enemy types and numbers; but DMs should be aware they may need to do this.
  • Slightly Overpriced. Given the length of this adventure I feel it should've been about $1 cheaper to be more competitively priced with alternatives. However that does not go against my "value for money" point above.
  • Slightly Odd Formatting. A few minor typos, seemingly arbitrary use of formatting, and slightly non-optimal organistion make this document slightly more difficult to parse than most.
Things to Note
  • Risky This adventure could be completed various ways but most fun will be extracted if the players choose one particular path. If your group doesn't pick up on the clues, or decides they don't want to go that path, the adventure loses much of its charm. (Not that this is necessarily a problem. It's just something a buyer should be aware of.)
Overall

An excellent adventure for DMs to have in their back pocket. It makes a great change from dungeon-crawls and monster-mashes and it has a fun premise that players will enjoy. Just be mindful that, as DM, you may need to tweak NPC quantity and type to better balance difficulty.

I've run this twice so far, once as a 1-shot for beginners and once with my regular gaming group. Solid adventure, great fun and very easy to run! My favourite part is the handouts included, which went a long way towards making me look more prepared than I really was. Definitely recommended!

Great fun was had by all! My typical H&S party became a bunch of lively minstrels! Most of the FG module was on point, some minor things like the play being incomplete in the FG module (just copy-pasted from PDF). I ran the quest in french, using google and its translation service which was good to at least 95% of the text. (I have to find a way to share that back to the community BTW)

Some personal mods to get the PCs going: Added 2 "bandit archers" with some drugged arrows (2 turns paralyzed if DC15 failed). That lowered their cockiness and helped/pushed them to go for the acting out the play. That apple cart damsel in distress also fell for our knight, btw she's a widow (with 8 kids to feed).

I suggest that you find a way to record the play when your players act it out. That's acting gold right there!

A+

P.S.: Now the PCs are resting at Dragon's breath Tavern :)

Great adventure with wonderful opportunities for roleplaying. Used it as a one-shot for my group which 1/2 the players couldn't make. They had such a great time they are keeping their characters in case we have scheduling problems again. Nice twists in the adventure and thanks again for a mid tier game that was not just a hack-and-slash night.

This is an outstanding adventure. The adventure preys on those murderhobo urges and turns them into a show for the villain. Was an absolute blast to be apart of! Great work Jeff!

One of my favorite modules I've ran. This module has so many pros. It is easy to drop in to any setting. You can be pretty much any level for it (my players were level 7). And new players and experienced players alike will enjoy it! You get to see your party think on their feet and improvise a bit. All around, this module gave my group a ton of laughs!

We ran this module for our podcast/YouTube series. Links below (or you can download the podcasts wherever you get podcast by searching "One-shot Onslaught"). At first reading I was wondering how it would play out but as I read it the second time I really thought this would be good. It has a very interesting plot device that he players really reacted to well.

This has a nice unique twist on typical 'go eliminate the bandits' types of adventures. My players really enjoyed 'performing' and the fun of the final encounter not knowing who to really trust--more like who to mistrust the least.

I will definitely run this again when I get my next group of new players. Well worth the price.

I ran this adventure last night for my five member party of 6th level adventurers. It was fantastic! The players really enjoyed the many ways that this adventure unfolds differently from a more conventional module. We wrapped up The Night of the Rise in just over three hours and the group left laughing and discussing the unexpected twists and turns they encountered! Bravo!
