ePublishing 101 (#2) - Setting an Art Budget
Publisher: Ronin Arts
by Kosala U. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/19/2006 00:00:00

A good addition to the series, considering the series is still starting out. I learned nothing new, but for starting publishers, this PDF contains somethings that are simply essential to know, and although you can figure most of it out yourself in the end, reading this will definitely save you some money.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Excellent value for money, good tutorials at the end.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Nothing much.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

ePublishing 101 (#1) - Branding
Publisher: Adamant Entertainment
by Kosala U. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/10/2006 00:00:00

An acceptable start to the series. I found the advice provided to be of great use if you are starting out as a publisher and have no previous business experience at all. This, from what I understand, is the point of this series so nothing to critique there.

For those who have already got some business experience under the belt, this product may not be worth the money unless you really cannot find anything else to spend 5 bucks on.

I would have given this a 3 if the product had not been so expensive for such a limited amount of content.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Its a good product to introduce the basic concepts of branding to a complete novice and help avoid simple pitfalls.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Based on the content and the very short nature of this product - it is massively overpriced. The font is large and spread out over too many pages. There is only 450 words per page on average. Done at a more regular word size and formatting this would have been a 3 page document that could more resonably retail at $3 at the most.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Acceptable<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

Creator Reply:
Complaining that there are "only" 450 words per page on average is a bit strange, since 350-400 words per page is average for most printed products. Is $5.00 too high? It depends on what you think getting advice from two of the top PDF publishers in the business is worth. Obviously, opinions will vary.

Excellent as usual. I own all the stock artwork from the Forge and have contracted them for custom work as well. And in each case the quality is consistent and top notch. Fantasy Filler Art by Rick Hershey
Publisher: Ronin Arts
by Kosala U. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/24/2005 00:00:00

The following review is not about the artists work in general, but only about the quality of this one product. Rick Hershey might well be an excellent artist in general and I have not seen any other work of his to compare with, so the below comments are for this one product only.

As far as a stock art compilation goes and considering the price tag, the variation of artwork in this product is much too little. The level of quality of the artwork is also far too low to really consider using as filler art in a commercial product.

However as filler art for a free product it may well have been more useful - if the variation of the artwork was larger.

In its current state, this product is at most worth 3-4 dollars. Considering the level of quality of stock art you can buy from other artists/publishers for $8, this product comes no where near what it needs to be at to warrant such an exhorbitant price tag.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Considering the price tag, not much of anything. Might be useful as filler art for a free product<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Too expensive and too low quality and variation in the artwork for this price<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Disappointing<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Ripped Off<br>

My Thoughts on Writing and Publishing Short PDFs
Publisher: Ronin Arts
by Kosala U. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/07/2004 00:00:00

This is an interesting read for anyone looking to start selling short PDFs. It is however very short and contains only a short amount of details and information. However considering the fact that the short PDFs themselves are targeted, limited information, this is not out of place.

Filled with interesting information and highly recommended to anyone starting out in ebook publishing for the RPG industry.

I am not sure I learned anything I didn't already guess at, however if you are new to starting small companies as well being new to the RPG industry, this is a not-to-be missed product.
