Elements of Magic (Revised)
Publisher: EN Publishing
by A customer [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/30/2019 07:07:53

So many years after I first purchased this product, this is still one of the best supplements I've ever incorporated into my games. My players really love using this magic system - it's completely spoiled them for the old Vancian ways of doing things. When I've got a new idea for a fantasy game I want to run, I'll often give my players a choice of systems, but I don't know why I bother. They always choose the same thing: our bastard mix of D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder 2, with Elements of Magic. They just want a chance to play with EoM again.

From what I've read about the new edition of Pathfinder, it sounds like EoM won't work with it very well. This makes me sad. Because this is a really fun and wonderful product, and it will be sad if later generations of gamers never encounter it because the systems can't support it anymore. As for us, we'll probably always keep our old system books around, just so we can run an adventure with Elements of Magic once in awhile.

Strange Places: The Hive of the Sleeping Queen

Nice product, unique idea, nicely done maps - will require only a little tweaking to fit it into my game. BUT. Page 11 is missing. The document just repeats pg 12 twice instead. Any ideas where I might get the missing page?

A wonderful inspiration! Probably a third of the ideas here could be used in my current campaign, either as-is or with minimal tweaking, and the remainder are giving me ideas for the future. Highly recommended.

LIKED: Good organization, easy to use, excellent spur to the imagination! Bleeding Edge #1: Mansion of Shadows

I recently ran this module, and I highly recommend it. It provided a great balance of role playing, problem-solving, combat, and sheer terror -- my players had a blast, and so did I. I'll be running this one again in the future for other groups.

My only quibble is that all of the NPCs given were statted for first level players. The module gives directions for scaling up, but I'd have been even happier with the product if alternate stats were provided for higher levels.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Add-A-Room III: Hall of Mirrors
Publisher: Creation's Edge Games

I loved the idea of the Hall of Mirrors. The product as-is wasn't the magical funhouse I wanted for my game, but it was good idea-fodder. Considerable work turned this basic-idea product into a highly cool dungeon that kept my players happy for two game sessions, and provided plot hooks that have defined my campaign since.

LIKED: Great adventure seed! For a dollar? Very worth it.

DISLIKED: In the original incarnation of the Hall, the rooms in the Hall all looked pretty much the same, and the same monster was in each room for a very repetitive combat experience. Also, the PCs would be affected by any mirror they looked at - they couldn't choose what mirrors to attempt, which prevented them from strategizing, and me from being really devious with misleading clues! If I'd used the Hall as presented in the pdf, my players would have had more frustration than fun.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Sahasra - The Spirit In the Spice Groves
Publisher: Dog Soul Publishing
by J. T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/08/2006 00:00:00

As an adventure, I knew on reading "Spirit in the Spice Groves" that it was to 'if-then-else' to work with my gaming group, who are notorious for doing the unexpected.

As an adventure setting, though, "Spirit" had lots of possibilities. I'm not running Sahasra, but the underground village of monkey people and their tranquil groves fit very naturally on a volcanic island in my game, and I imagine they'd fit as easily into any jungle or tropical mountain setting.

I substituted a more flexible plot that worked better with my campaign, and it worked wonderfully.

LIKED: Loved the setting - beautifully described, lots of color, created a specific feel that worked very well at the gaming table. The inherent tranquility of the setting contrasted well with the horror plot I ended up using.

DISLIKED: Restrictive plot: if I'd actually run this adventure as is, my gaming group would have been off the rails before I could say "heron lotus." That's ok, though - the adventure setting was worth the price to me.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
Kaiser's Bazaar Collection
Publisher: Mad Kaiser Games
by J. T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/19/2006 00:00:00

I bought this collection because I enjoyed Kaiser's Bazaar A so much. The rest of the series is equally inspiring.

A) The specific shops and stalls the pdfs describe have inspired life and color in my campaign's cities - especially cities whose economy revolves around a particular product B) The products described have given me great ideas for unusual treasures and loot

Having said that...

Some of the pricing guides are misaligned. I was going to use Kaiser Book B to create a shipment of valuable glassworks... but the prices and weights shown for the glassworks section on page 14 are hopelessly muddled. There have been a few other places where I've seen the price/weight guides a bit off, but that chart in particular is almost unusable.

Any chance of getting a better version?
