Orientals Set

With a heavy emphasis on Japanese culture (also reflected in most 'Oriental' settings) the big selling point here are the obligatory samurai and ninja models, which are very nicely rendered. The rest of the set is built around some models that don't quite meet the standards of the samurai and ninja, however, and the inclusion of only a single soldier model seems a bit off.

LIKED: The armoured samurai are excellent models and the ninja are quite characterful - a real must-have for any game.

DISLIKED: The 'filler' models are quite beneath the quality of the aforementioned samurai and ninja, with the soldier being particularly lacklustre. A lack of Chinese-based models was also curious. No spear-fighters or Shaolin or even a sinister Fu Manchu type aristocrat.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
An excellent variety of rather varied hero types, ranging from a wide selection of warriors to a smattering of demi-humans and spellcasters, even a bard and a druid. The models are quite realistic and depict the subject matter very nicely.

LIKED: A very useful cross-section of fantasy adventurer types.

DISLIKED: A few more 'ethnic' characters would have been nice. Also didn't care for the scout being mounted on a big lizard, limiting that model's usefulness. Still, very minor quibbles.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
The real surprise in this set were the amazing designs for the hobgoblins! They are simply awesome and quite intimidating. The lizardmen are slinky, scaly horrors and would double nicely for Serpent Folk in a Hyborian-themed setting. The orcs and goblins are also nicely understated and could be used to represent ape-men of various sorts in a Hyborian setting. The regular troll depicted in the cover art is likewise a beautiful model, and the ogre is likewise a great piece. With such nice 'big guys', the minotaur looks a bit inferior - a passable model, just not to the standard of his compatriots.

LIKED: A very good selection of classic monster foes.

DISLIKED: Need more kobolds! One just isn't enough!

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
A very nice set of villains for a generic fantasy campaign, from a really cool Chaos lord (with a mounted miniature as well) to an assortment of demons, sorcerers and utilitarian villains like thieves, assassins and executioners - the only nemesis missing is the tax collector. The witch was a real surprise, a withered old hag provided both on foot and astride a flying broomstick!

LIKED: An excellent variety of villains, making this set of great use to just about any scenario.

DISLIKED: My only quibble would be a desire for more Chaos warriors and the repeat of the large fire demon in the 'oversized' triangular figures.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
