The Town of Umberham
Publisher: Cartography Unlimited for RPGs

I found this product to be full of useful material. The town of Umberham is the bulk of the iceberg here as there is good descriptive material for the surrounding area to satisfy a party of adventurers for several game sessions. There are a lot of NPCs, and while they are not all 100% fleshed out, there are stats for them, which is usually plenty to get by during a game session.

At over 200 pages in length, I feel I got my monies worth in purchasing this product.

LIKED: The maps are good, and the number of NPCs and regional material are also great additions. I found the inclusion of tables with prices for services and items in some of the shops useful.

DISLIKED: While there is a lot here, there is a lot of the town of Umberham that we don't get to know about. Also, I'd like some adventure hooks and to know how the different townspeople interact with each other. Some legends to go along with the region maps would also help.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Villages - Buckland Treath

Overall this is a good product, though personally I felt it did not go as far as it could have. I enjoyed the maps, and the NPCs included are fleshed out to a moderate extent. While there is some interaction hinted at among some of the NPCs, others seemed more like background items who only show up at certain places and are not seen again. In addition, many of the NPCs - especially the commoners are rich. Several of the 'ladies' in the village have ammassed over 125 gp of coin and gems as commoners. I know several low level adventurers who aren't that rich.

I also wish there was more to the product. More hooks, more people, and more description. The village map shows several buildings, but only a handful are detailed. What about the other shops and people? Who lives in the building across from Geeti's Fur? What do the buildings in the SE corner of the village house? With over 800 residents in the village, it would have been nice to know more about them.

I would have liked to have had maps for Fort Carn and the mine. Since they are included with the village description, it would be nice to know something more about them.

LIKED: The maps are well detailed and the NPCs that are described are good. This is a good place from which to launch some adventures. In addition, I really liked the interactive aspect of the product.

DISLIKED: There were some minor editing and grammar problems associated with the pdf version. These were annoying.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
This is an excellent resource for GMs wanting to have a highly detailed setting, but have no time to prepare one themselves. The buildings are drawn in wonderful detail with elevation and plan views and there's enough information for you to start an adventure path or just create a nice background setting for you players. All the buildings are easily transfered to your own setting, and the player handouts are a great addition to the product. I look forward to the next one in the series.

LIKED: The handouts and the art work are first rate.

DISLIKED: For the price, the number of buildings in the product seems a bit low. I would have liked one or two more buildings for the current price, or keep the same number of buildings and lowered the price by a $1.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Satisfied
