BattleLands 15mm Normandy: 1944 Set B-Ruins & Scenics
Publisher: GiantGGames
by Steve L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/24/2006 00:00:00

A nice set of buildings that are in 'true' 15mm scale. The ruins can be mixed and matched and there is a selection of rural, urban and ruined bases the ruins can be mounted on.

Whilst you don't need a great deal of modelling skill to make these some of the ruins have fiddly bits, but these are optional and you don't have to add them if you don't want to. If you mix these ruins with the buildings set A you can make a sizeable Norman town that has been fought over.

LIKED: Interchangeable buildings and clear assembly instructions.

DISLIKED: Not much. A couple of the items are a bit fiddly to line up, but no real drama.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Pulp Hero (5th Edition)
Publisher: Hero Games
by Steve L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/28/2006 00:00:00

This is an excellent source book. There is an indepth look at the whole pulp genre including the history and evolution of Pulp magazines. It includes an exhaustive history and details on almost every country/type of pulp adventure you may wish to run. I don't use the Hero system myself but to covert this to other systems is easy. There are a great many 'stereotype' heroes and villains in here and plenty of ideas on how to customise them. Whether you play dark and gritty or Hollywood Adventure style games this book is well worth buying.

I have used it to develop my own set of Miniatures Rules. Truly a fabulous source of information.

LIKED: In depth history of Pulp Genre and excellent character development.

DISLIKED: It's very big!

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Vampire Earth Sourcebook
Publisher: Vampjac Productions
by Steve L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/28/2006 00:00:00

Having read the books by E.E Knight I was delighted to have a look at this. Vampire Earth is an unpleasant place and this book gives details on all of the character types that appear in the books and helps you to capture the desperation of humanity in a conquered world. The settings are good and the character creation easy, it can be used with any system of RPG that you require. My main grumble would be a lack of illustrations but it is a mnor grumble. If you like the books and fancy a dabble at some near dark future games this is as good as anything out there.

LIKED: Captures the flavour of the books and very detailed location/ game ideas.

DISLIKED: Not enough decent illustrations.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
WorldWorksGames / CastleWorks Ultimate
Publisher: WorldWorks Games

The quality of WorldWorks Games products is awesome. The generic nature of the walls etc means that you can build a truly huge and I mean huge castele environment.

For any LOTR gamers out there you can use this product to form a very good Helms Deep and a more than passable Gondor.

It comes with very very clear instructions and 99% of the items require only very basic modelling ability and a sharp knife.

Useful for RPG Fantasy, Pulp, Horror, Modern amongst others. And 28mm Wargames.

LIKED: Easy to print, easy to assemble, looks fantastic, unendingly expandable.

Clear easy to follow instructions. Very few fiddly bits.

DISLIKED: Absolutely nothing.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Fire As She Bears! 2nd Edition (2.1)
Publisher: Starboard Tack Press
by Steve L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/14/2005 00:00:00

An excellent set of rules for fleet/squadron sized actions. The rules are well illustrated with clear diagrams and examples. Unlike other rules for this period they do not focus too much on individual ships - but there is enough detail to fight single ship actions if that is your thing. These rules place you firmly in the Admiral's berth and you don't actually have to know an awful lot about sailing to follow them, unlike some other similar sets of rules.

Recommended for beginners and veterans of Napoleonic Naval Warfare.

LIKED: Easy to follow rules, enough detail for fleet and single ship actions, well illustrated and concise. The excel programme for ship design is a nice touch.

DISLIKED: The examples being seperate from the main rules.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
