An excellent addition to the excellent "101" line, this is a compendium of creepy events that may or may not be related to the occult. I would call them Fortean events rather than occult events (there's a new feat, Fortean Magnet, included too), but the distinction is probably not important for most. As with most of the "101" products, each entry is given about a sentence or two. These are brainstorming hooks, and even the pickiest GM can come away with 15-20 good ideas.

LIKED: Great content, good brainstorming, excellent price.

DISLIKED: As with other "101" products, I'd like to see one or two of the ideas fleshed out into a scenario or two, instead of a sentence or two, just to show how to go about using them in gameplay.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
Ronin Arts small releases of rumors/events/etc. are always a nifty addition to the game. In this case it is intended for D20 Modern, though I will be using it with Mongoose Publishing's OGL Steampunk.

In this case I use the events to add a bit of 'strangeness' to certain areas of the campaign world - where things aren't quite right... and odd things are stirring.

Not all events are detrimental, many are beneficial, and some just make people go 'wha?' The events are labeled accordingly.

A new feat is added to the game which allows the player to once per session gave an event occur in his presence. If the event is either beneficial or just random strangeness then rhat is all that occurs. If the effect is detrimental the character receives an action point. (You don't want the PCs to get gun shy about using their feats do you?) I may limit the availability of this feat in some way, so that it doesn't just come down to strange luck.

All in all a very handy product. Now if I could only get my players ro wonder 'why' the events are occuring...

LIKED: It saves me time that might have been spent coming up with 'general weirdness' on my own. And it gives a kickoff point for when I do.

DISLIKED: There is no real organization to the book, the ideas seem to be written down in the order that they ocurred to the author. (A very small quibble indeed.) And while written under the OGL for D20 Modern the only content that is system specific is the feat. (Again, a very minor quibble.)

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
101 Occult Events is a great resource for adding weird, "Fortean" type events and occurances for a little flavor and mood in a d20 Modern Occult/Conspiracy game like d20 Modern Dark*Matter. Like all things Fortean, these work best as "red herrings" and can be easily dropped into any campaign session. Some are beneficial, others are detrimental, others are either neutral or could go either way. Most include associated game mechanics.

This product also presents a new feat, Fortean Magnet, that allows a player to request one of these weird Fortean event to occur in their PC's presence once during the course of the session (GM picks).

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
