The biggest shame here is that Hero Force could actually be a pretty cool and competitive product... If only the publishers didn't treat it like some campy second stringer product. The rules are serviceable, if unfortunately deadly (why?) and there's some good ideas in here, along with twice as many missed opportunities.

What could have been a very strong rules-light superhero game line doesn't reach half the potential, but for the right group willing to put the work in, it might well be possible to bring out the good and smooth out the bad.

I wanted a superhero RPG that was simple AND fun. Hero Force is both. I have been looking for a game like this for a long time. I think it is a great way to introduce people to RPGs. Simple mechanic, strong on flavor and low on crunch yet still more fun than you can shake your cape at!!! And when I say simple mechanic, I mean simple mechanic. Roll a 1d6 under stat + skill to succeed. A 1 is an automatic success and 6 is an automatic failure. I know it doesn't seem possible, but this system really works. My first game ran about 3 hours including character creation and printing out the rules!!!!

The price is definitely right with this game. For $3.95, as far as RPGs go these days, it is practically free and worth every penny. It comes with 5 ready-made scenarios, each one a blast.

Those of you who like rules heavy and crunchy games, this game may not be for you, but if you are looking for a light alternative the next time too many of your players bow out at the last minute of the weekly meeting, you can't do better than Hero Force!

LIKED: Simple rules and mechanics. Incredible super hero flavor and a lot of fun. The price.

DISLIKED: Nothing. It is exactly what I expected it to be. Loads of fun.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
I finally got to introduce my gaming group to the 1PG line and they decided to try this version of the game out. Enough through I consider this to have the most c'comples' rules of all the versions (it has to cover superpowers), character gen still only took 10 minutes and once play began they all happily got into the swing of things.

Playing this game confirmed a nummber of things for me. This really is a good alternative when time is short or people just want a rules light adventure. However I don't think that the system can really bear upto a campaign, it's enjoyable but too rules light.

Saying that I've been told I'm going to be running it again!

LIKED: Well for the price if nothing else you get 6 one shot adventures. Which is a bargain for the money. Also I have to say if you are looking to fill the time between other system led campaigns, this is the one to pick.

DISLIKED: For a game costing less than $4, you simply cannot complain

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
