Really well put together and challenging set but it stands head and shoulders above anything else I've found for bringing life to a game table. All the WWG terrain is great, but this is the first time that a cardstock model will not only be dressing for a campaing but a FOCAL point for a campaign.
Materials wise, this set, if you build all the optional pieces, will take over 100 pieces of cardstock (I haven't stopped to count, but it's over 1 1/2 inches thick of print when done) and nearly a whole color cartridge. Because of the woodgrain textures, the color tends to suck the yellow out of your cart first, so refillers take note of that.
Time wise... Well, I'm pretty slow.. but here's what I estimate:
2 hours to print (HP 722C on Normal Mode)
About 6 hours to Cut (I tend to do all my cutting at once..and I'm kind of slow. The cutting took 6 Xacto blades)
About 2 hours to 'prep' (edge and score)
About 6 hours to assemble (and I'm slow).
This is in line with the site's estimate that you can do it in one week with 2 hours per night.
I expect my next maiden may go an hour or two quicker.
This set is WELL worth the time it takes as it's every bit 'toy' as model. The battle ideas I've got cooking are very fun to think about and it's very model friendly.
I built mine with 'no grid' but there are 1" and 1.5" grids available. My reasoning was that the space is small enough that you can estimate distances easier.. but if you do a lot of miniature or MageKnight battles, the grids are there.
FYI, you can always just print out the grid portions of the model and make different decking pieces to fit in with the grids as you need.
If WoldWorks keeps cranking out this qualify of cardstock, gaming is going to look and BE a lot more visually rich and fun in the next few months.
(BTW, the Secret of Skull Cove is a great set to go with the maiden for Pirate raids etc... I don't work for WWG either!)
Yo Ho Me Hearties Yo Ho! :)
