Some dads have egos about fixing or buildings things, be it electrical, plumbing, or structural. Me? I get offended when I see a play set I think I can build with my bare hands, a color printer, and a little help from the Internet.

So when I came across a dinosaur play set retailing for over sixty bucks, I decided I could create something just as good. I searched for typical dinosaur settings: volcanoes, jungles, etc…and came up with nothing.

It turns out I had already purchased exactly what I needed in the form of WorldWorks Games' SeaWorks: The Legend of Skull Cove.

The Legend of Skull Cove is a modular tropical island construction set with over 197 unique items. At its heart is the innovative and unique system of cliffs, offering a variety of stairs, paths and levels. The cliffs can be used to model natural terrain, many feature built-in steps and platforms at the two and six-inch levels. They can be used to outline a bay, make a raging river canyon or volcanic crater. Designed for easy build-up and ruggedness, there are fourteen basic cliff modules, some offered in mirrored versions for flexibility. There's also a cliff-style arched portal as well as a volcano cliff with add-on cone and dress panels. Three backs are provided for maximum flexibility.

But there's much more to Skull Cove. The cliff steps alone are a feat of engineering, but they are just one fourth of what you get with the set. The original reason I bought it was because it came with a ship that I needed for a game over three years ago. Everything you'd need in a treasure island is here, complete with island and treasure. In addition to fun props like tentacles and shark fins, it has an entire series of docks, cranes, barrels, native idols and huts, a fort, several kinds of ships, and a variety of one-inch tiles for land, water, and even lava.

If you want a three-dimensional volcano, jungle cliffs, or pirate docks, there's really no competition here. This is the only set you'll ever need, and I've gotten so much use out of it that my three-year-old is reaping the benefits from my purchase years ago. Now his dinosaurs have an entire volcano to scale!

I have all of the WorldWorks Games terrain sets to date. This has got to be the most varied and flexible cardstock terrain set ever!

I cannot overstate the incredible amount of options that come included with Skull Cove. There is foliage that can be used in any outdoor setting, cliffs that are ingeniously designed and very sturdy, and (as always) the textures are amazing!

There are elements from this set that can and will be used in almost any setting, in almost any environment. There are rocks and stairs that even come with three different texture options!

Thanks, guys! You?re the best!

LIKED: The amazing flexibility and design quality! Everything's well built, and can hold a ton of metal minis. Excellent!

I purchased "Seaworks: SkullCove" to use for an demonstration of Evil Stevie's Pirate Game. The look is perfect, and the scale is not too far off from the Lego(tm) standard. Even though my players backed out on me, I'm glad I purchased ...SkullCove.

There are several reasons to like this set. The graphics are colorful, detailed, and varied. The models range from tiny treasure chests and barrels to a large volcano. These models were fun to assemble, the directions were clear (although I do have a few left over parts, and I don't know where they go). The forts are modular with different gates, buttresses, walls, and docks that can be used. They do, however, lack any real buildings to go behidn the walls except for some tribal huts. I recommend picking up a free copy (while its still free) of "The Vyllage House."

I used ...SkullCove with "Treasure Islands" by Skeleton Key Games and "The Vyllage House" from the Vyllage on the Cheep series by MicroTactix Games. The three blend very nicely.

LIKED: There is a lot of material here. I can't over emphasize that point. I could keep making minatures from months.

DISLIKED: Although the models were easy to assemble in most cases, some of the tabs are too small to hold adequate amounts of glue. My practice of gluing some models to cardstock to strengthen them before cutting made this worse. Even using different types of glue from Superglue to Rubber Cement, they still wouldn't hold unless I increased the bonding surface area with clear tape -- and that just looks tacky. BTW, I found that Elmer's No Run Gel seems to work best out of any adhesive. The solution I eventually found was to cut out the tabs so they are larger than instructed.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
I have really enjoyed the worldworks materials and I have gotten a lot of use out of the cliffs. It really helps me to add a level of height to the game which was tough to really represent previously.

The instructions are generally clear and the models seem to be made with minimum cutting and folding in mind.

Another very nice set from World Works, and quite, quite large.

This more than any other World Works set is a setting for an adventure waiting to happen. If you are running 7th Sea or Skull & Bones this may well be the set for you.

The cliffs are also handy, especially when topped with the skull cave available as a free download from the World Works web site. Beaches and a stone arch complete the natural features of this set. I will likely be doing some decorating of this portion with plastic skeletons dangling from the arch. (It reminds me of Pirates of the Caribean at Disneyland.)

Some native huts and idols continue the soth seas theme.

Boats in several different types, with and without sails, and several with a pirate aspect.Including both a raft, and a rather wide dugout canoe. Shark fins are included to keep the players nervous while on these vessels.

Of particular note - the docks, wharfs and the dockside crane will see a deal of use in games aside from pirate themed adventures. I will be adding these to the contents of Village Works and other town sets. I have been wanting a docks district and this fills the role quite nicely.

Two different flavors of fortification, a stone structure and a wooden palisade, round things off pleasantly. Thoug small they can help with adventures involving either defending or attacking the walls.

All in all quite a good set, though fairly sharply focused.

My first experience with World Works (and paper models in general), Sea Works: Skull Cove is an outstanding introduction to a very talented terrain maker. This set provides over 200 items to tinker with, and the details on all items is absolutely incredible! And easy to create to boot!

Kudos to the World Works folks for creating such a great product.

Lots and lots of pieces. The set is unlike any other, and it covers all sorts of terrain, which makes it playable for settings far from the ocean. This is very neat. I was wondering about the price, but it's really worth it. This is a jewel in the crown for World Works games.
