I loved running this to introduce some friends to D&D! The party consisted of two players new to the game and one who is playing it regularly. They all had a great time!

However, when reading and preparing the adventure I realized that I had to change parts of the story because I found elements of it confusing. It states that magic users are imprisoned and even executed but the players can find Flying Swords in the basement which are clearly magical (and created by magic according to the Monster Manual). I knew my friends would take the investigation part very seriously and draw their conclusions. Which I feared would result in them overthinking and getting frustrated. So I came up with the idea that House Tor is secretly a supporter of magic and gave a few clues in this direction. This worked out fine and played well into the story. (And as expected, the group wondered about the swords but also figured it all out eventually).

What I found really helpful was how the chase was segmented into six obstacles that the players could either succeed or fail. What a simple buildup for a chase! I always find the chase rules of the Dungeon Master's Guide overwhelming and complicated when preparing or even improvising a chase. So I will definitely use the system introduced in this adventure again! Thank you a lot for that! Also, the chase was really fun and engaging for me and the players!

Thank you for the review! I actually agree with the story elements and I did not enjoy them looking back; I've removed imprisoning of magical folk part of the story and this should be reflected in copies of the adventure going forward :)

I really appreciate what the author was going for here and what they have is beautifully presented but I can't help but feel the attempt to make this fit any party for any setting resulted in the whole thing feeling more like the outline for an adventure than a proper adventure itself.

The balance of flavour and information vs fill-in-the-blanks seems at odds. For example its established that magical creatures are lower in the social order but it's not established why the events of the adventure are happening or what the key piece of treasure is or does at the end.

I think as a free download Invasion Of House Tor is great for anyone looking to kickstart their own adventure idea but definitely feels very incomplete as published to me.

I ran this as my first ever time DMing and it went down really well! It's quite thin on detail so I printed it out beforehand and scribbled notes all over it.

In particular, when the players are meant to discover an "underground operation", rather than having the players invent it, I made a room filled with different clues and had the player deduce what it was (an animal fighing ring). Then, between scenes they got to overhear chatter about a particular noble, who had young money. If they found the noble and brought him a drink, he says he got rich betting on a "big game". At the end, I gave the players bonus XP for discussing the mystery and working out certain details (what the operation is, how the noble got rich, why he sent the spy). I think we all had a lot of fun with this variation!

I found the lavatory scene wasn't very compelling and didn't seem to keep the pace as well as the other encounters. Otherwise, a cool first adventure! :)

This adventure has an fun plot and great art, but a lot is left out for the DM to fill in themselves. My players thought after the first encounter that it was boring, and I know there was more interesting encounters farther in, but it was slightly boring for me too. It would work well, though, as a base for a longer and more complicated adventure. Creative plot but not enough narrative, I think. Also, in my opinion there was a lot of XP awarded very freely (100xp just for a successful Charisma check). I love the graphics, though.

Used this as the outline to run my very first adventure as a DM! My players had a lot of fun. It's a great outline to be able to fill in yourself, which I appreciated. Great job!

It's a fun story, very nicely written. The essentials are there and it's easy for an experienced DM to create the descriptions around. In my personal experience I find easier to have a detailed descriptions to read to my players while focusing my brain on the fights and to cope with surprises and unexpected decisions from the players.

Graphics are very professional.

Very well done!

Well written. My group and I had fun with it. The part about magic users being enslaved could have been left out and that would help DM's to incorporate this into their own preferred setting. Also Obstacle 3 in the chase was a little hard to implement. Problem came in deciding who just dropped down and who tried to do it with an athletics check to avoid damage. The way I implemented the suggested inspiration section was to tell them that one of them was hired by a rival house to gather info on house tors underground dealings. We had fun with that. Good work.

Nicely designed and well written, if a bit sketchy. Much is left up to the DM to fill-in which may appeal more to some than others. Some good adventure seeds are hinted at.
