This PDF has some of the same products as the other Buck-a-Batch product I reviewed. The writer keeps added the phrase ?as described in the Dungeons & Dragons Player?s Handbook, 3rd edition? to everything. Its sort of annoying after a while, particularly since we already know that we need the PHB anyway, just say ?as per whatever-the-name-of-the spell? is and be done. Also, the layout is sort of hard to read because the margins are all jagged on the right and the spacing looks too big. It just doesn?t look like a professional produced product. I do like the different choices that the product offers, but some of them are just variants on the theme. 9 of the shields are just represent different dragon types, when the writer could have just offered ONE shield and then made it known there are different varieties (much like the Bag of tricks is listed as one item in the SRD but there are different types of it).

LIKED: Nice idea and can't beat the price

DISLIKED: redundant items and wording.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
Good product, considering the price.

I enjoyed seeing the items that were included, but I would have liked to have seen more unique items, rather than a collection of similar and repetetive items.

DISLIKED: The repetition of items, with only a few words changed in the description, is somewhat disappointing.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
Not as many duplicate effects as with the other sets, but still lacking the imagination and inspiration I'd like to see in a product of this nature. Carries the feel of something simply slapped on paper.

LIKED: Along with most the rest of this collection, it helped me fill out a large number of items I was creating for my campaign.

DISLIKED: Only barely worth the purchase price. Very little creativity.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
I bought a bunch of these (most if not all) and like them quite a bit. I'm always on the lookout for interesting magic items that are well made. These fit the bill well. Very reasonably priced as well.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
As with the other Buck-a-Batch files I've purchased, the quality of ideas runs the gamut from boring to original and interesting.

Cons:

 1. Lousy game mechanics. Too often there are no DC's given for an item's ability. Most items do not specify the type of action (standard, free) needed to activate them. The pricing seems pretty out-of-whack, with several items actually cheaper than less powerful items in the DMG.
 2. 50 items? Only if you count all the repetitive items listed. For example, there are 10 Dragonscale Shields listed, one for each of 10 different dragons.

Pros:

 1. Ideas. The author seems to be very weak on mechanics, but is strong on flavor. There are some very good items in here. The Dire Armor will work well with a totem-worshipping barbarian tribe. The various shields can be used (with some tweaking of game mechanics) to give my players some neat, but not overpowering, items.
 2. Value. At a dollar, I just can't knock this product too much. If I can work just a half-dozen of the better items into my campaign, I'll have gotten more than my money's worth.

LIKED: Some of the items are original and useful.

DISLIKED: Weak game mechanics. Redundant at times.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
Great value for the price, you probably could even charge a little more because of the amount of items. It's nice to not have my players immediately recognize every item they find or are awarded. What DM can't identify with that?

I love the buck-a-batch series. Nice armor ideas and I can even pilfer it for other campaign plots.

This PDF continues the trend of cookie-cutter magic items. 10 Dragonscale shields, 4 Elemental shields, 4 Dire -animal- hide armors, 4 alignment armors, etc. As another reviewer mentioned, it does seem cheap, but then, how much does the product cost?

The Acid Shield and Acid-burst Shields (along with their other elemental brethren) were fairly interesting in that they prevent, store, and then release the specified elemental energies on a shield bash, but the gem of the product for me was the Shield of Sorrow, which, after six battles, will cry you a healing potion. After six battles, I'd think you'd need more than a cure light wounds potion, but the idea is sound.

GOOD RECOURCE, HOWEVER I THOUGHT USING THE SAME TEMPLATE FOR A WEAPON/ARMOR AND MODIFYING IT SLIGHTLY,AND LISTING THAT VARIED TEMPLATE 20 TIMES WAS KINDA CHEAP. BUT STILL A DECENT RESOURCE.

Lots of good stuff! A good resource for those DMs who need that something different without having to really work at it!
