I bought this book expecting some guidelines and balanced items. Unfortunately that is not what the designers intended. The items in the pdf range from cool to inane, and the values are frequently way off what would be expected. If you are just looking for a few funny items this may have what you want, however I was mostly disatisfied and would not have bought this pdf had I known the contents.

LIKED: A couple interesting items.

DISLIKED: Poor pricing. Items designed for humour. Items not thought through at all.

QUALITY: Poor

VALUE: Ripped Off
I am very sorry you did not like this book. It is too bad, as it has gotten many good reviews from reputable reviewers. The 15 page free demo details several artifacts and clearly shows what the book is about, and I am very sorry you did not view it before hand. I encourage anyone who is interested in this book to check out the free demo first. As for "balance", please note that the items are very powerful when put together fully, and aren't really meant to be done so. Artifacts are extremely powerful and can be game balancing, hence they are Artifacts. There is a reason that entire campaigns are built around them. My artifacts were built with this in mind, and scales up as the owner grows in levels. That is the entire basis of the book. Synergy Artifacts is a serious book for serious gamers. There is alot in there for people to like, and is has been our best seller. For you others who are reading this, take a look at the demo and I think you will see that it will be worth your time!

This whole thing was an outstanding concept, but I was pretty disappointed with the end product. The whole structure of the thing felt very scripted and mechanical, rather than creative or exciting... there was no 'flow' to it. The items themselves are fine, and the history segments are often intriguing, but much of it gets lost in the masses of functionality detail.

I think I was so enamored by the good idea that prompted the work, that an average production just couldn't live up to my hyped-up expectations.

LIKED: The concept is novel, and is an excellent way to keep items from being overpowered, and to use one item to spawn several quest ideas for a group.

DISLIKED: It's hard to pinpoint the exact source of my disatisfaction, but what it really seems to come down to is that the majority of the actual items just didn't grab me or hold my interest very well. There was a sense of character, or mystery, or style that seemed to be missing. It just felt like a lot of raw numbers and facts in many places.

QUALITY: Disappointing

VALUE: Disappointed
An excellent product - useful in many campaigns. I would buy more of the same.

LIKED: Imaginitive and original.

DISLIKED: The only thing that could possibly could have improved this product is maybe the presentation could have been slightly more polished. Some pictures wouldn't have gone amiss. Also - it would have been great if it included handouts for players

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Thank you for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed this book. This was the first real book that I released, and also the first layout I did, so I see your points clearly. Rest assured, that my later books are far more polished and have far more images. When my next Artifacts books is released, you will find the same creativity in it's contents, and a higher quality in the writing and layout. If you liked this one, just wait till you see the sequel, Unorthodox Artifacts!

There is some really nice stuff in here. The only downside is that these are NOT for a low-powered game! (and would require signifigant changes to make them work) With the exception of the Baubles, most of these items get extremely powerful especially when the synergy bonuses start to come into play - in other words, these would work great for Forgotten Realms or other "high fantasy" settings.

With that said, there is still a lot to like. Some are pretty imaginative and some even have a bit of humor tossed into them. The price is certainly right for the sheer volume of items provided.

Thats all I have to say... and remember, "With great power comes great stupidity. Don't touch the wall."

Thanks for the comments! This has been my proudest book to date. It took me a couple months to write and edit, but I am very happy with it. As for the "not for a low-powered game", I have only one comment: The more pieces of a set you give a player the more powerful and more unbalanced he becomes... so don't give him a full set! Really, players are not meant to become that powerful. It inflates their egos. ~Le

I can't believe all of the stuff packed into this book! With the idea of items gaining more abilities as the character levels as well as synergy bonuses from other parts allows GM's to introduce "Artifacts" to characters at all levels.

This reminds me a lot of the set items from the Diablo II computer game. I've always wanted to do a d20 version of those and this gives me some groundwork and a place to start!

LOL. That's funny you should say that because I was a HUGE Diablo II player, and their "set items" is what triggered the idea for this book. Well, that and I was sick of Artifacts being available only to high level players. (I beleive even low level players should have access to interesting items) The response to this book have been very good, and I look forward to writing up sequel books. Thanks. ~The Le Games

Some great little goodies to add spice to any adventure or campaign. The idea of the whole is greater than the sum of its parts is well played out in these artifacts! Great addition to any GM's library!

Thank you for your kind words. Synergy Artifacts is far closer to my vision of "Artifacts for all Levels" than my first endeavor, Personal Artifacts. Don't fret though, because my next sequel will be a book dedicated to the BAUBLES OF ANCIENT POWER! Thanks again. ~The Le Games

A very nice product. I like the idea of having many minor artifacts building up to a major articat set. The only thing I found that detracted from the quality of the product was the lack of a table of contents. This would've made finding each section a lot easier.

Thank you for the comment on our product. The lack of a Table of Contents is clearly an oversight on our part, and we are immediately rectifying this for our future books. The good news is that the Landscape and Portrait PDFs that come with this download have proper bookmarks linking to each artifact (and don't forget the easy to copy/paste RTF version we included!) Thanks again, and please know that we are resolving this for our other books currently in production.
