Timeline: Roaring 20s
Publisher: RPG Objects
by James C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/07/2006 00:00:00

Very good for the price; an excellent value. It hits the roaring 20's hard with a few really good archetypes which it does well, and the timeline at the end was pretty nice. A very good jumping off point for those into 1920's pulp/gangster gaming. Quality work.

LIKED: An excellent value; I would have liked more, but then again, for the price, it was more than packed with good stuff.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
THRILLING TALES: The Mind Murders
Publisher: Adamant Entertainment
by James C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/07/2006 00:00:00

A good adventure, true to the pulps, and perfectly usable with or without the remaining products in their line. While it does seem to skip around a bit, it's not much problem to get a good understanding of how the story flows and make good use of it.

LIKED: Written in a tone consistent with the pulps, and the story has enough twists and turns to make it a fun roleplaying adventure while having enough opportunities for the more square-jawed players to put up their dukes and have at it. It was very easy for me to modify for my own needs after I got a clear idea of everything that could go on, and the fluff writing was on the spot in length, tone, and feel. It utilized some good pulp art also.

DISLIKED: Organization at times was a bit of an issue; it may be that just the potential for a non-linear progression and/or the options presented for the different ways characters could be brought into the story made it difficult, but after doing a quick flowchart of the major players myself I was able to tie all the adventure elements together nicely. It could have used just a bit more crunch as far as a layout or two for areas that could have an encounter, etc.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
Hot Pursuit: The Definitive D20 Guide to Chases
Publisher: Adamant Entertainment
by James C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/23/2005 00:00:00

Excellent work. This pdf combines all of the things I liked about d20 chases from a variety of sources, while ladling a good bit of new gravy over the top that brings it all together very nicely. It is very lucid, well, laid out, and the author is extremely available, responsive, and helpful with any issues through his postings on Enworld forums.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Big Bang Vol. 6: German Small Arms of WW2
Publisher: Alternate Realities Publications
by James C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/20/2004 00:00:00

Another great offering in the Big Bang series.

An essential if you are going to run a WW2 style game, the attention to detail and research involved is impeccable, and as with other products suits a wide variety of gaming systems. There are tons of very accurate detail for the weapons within, and good pictures of the weapons themselves abound throughout the book.

Definitely a must-have product for those looking for a great, in-depth reference as well as those looking for simply stats and pictures of WW2 German weapons.

Another great offering, this terrain piece is beautiful and is a wonderful additon to superhero/pulp/modern games.

While being a good bit of work to put together (as Mad Lab 1 was also) it is completely worth it when you have the finished product.

Big Bang Vol. 5: Grenades of the Cold War
Publisher: Alternate Realities Publications
by James C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/13/2004 00:00:00

If you've ever wanted a definitive resource for modern grenades, this is it. Research is on a par with Dana's other Big Bang products, and the diagrams and detail enclosed are quite nice. Well worth the money for folks who want something more than d20 Modern's (and other game systems's) one-grenade-fits-all treatment.

World War II Heroes - Players Guide
Publisher: SteelMagic Studios
by James C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/13/2004 00:00:00

This is a very well laid out and well written work; some of the variant rules are good once you get used to them.

The firearms section I had several issues with, such as why different rifles firing the same ammunition carried widely varying damages. I had trouble reconciling some of the damage ratings of weapons, such that I relied more on other works and research for my WWII game weapon statistics.

All in all, a good source for WWII gaming information though there are several rules variants and statistics for weapons that diverge quite a big from a 'd20 Modern' compatible product, whether for good or ill is up to the individual reader.

Hell on Earth (1939-1945) World War II
Publisher: Bloodstone Press
by James C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/13/2004 00:00:00

This book does a good treatment of WWII material, and presents some very nice advanced classes, feats, vehicle detail, and a few expanded rules. Some of the detail, such as with vehicle hardness, depart somewhat from the d20 Modern standard in my opinion, but I think I understand the developer's reasoning behind it.

While I was not a big fan of their tables, they are usable.

All in all, a good product for those wishing to run a WWII based game with a few minor tweaks here and there to suit the flavor you are going for.

Publisher: Alternate Realities Publications
by James C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/13/2004 00:00:00

Another great offereing by Dana. Weapons are impeccably researched and the statistics are probably as accurate as can be for a variety of game systems.

A lot of extra detail that some folks may not want, but still a great buy if just for the data about the weapons within. Fans of extra detail will find tons of great information to digest.

His offerings get even better with each volume, the writing is very concise and to the point and the table layouts are quite user friendly.

A very good, and extremely well researched piece of work. There is a lot of granularity in the material in this book, but even if you aren't interested in the development or detail of the weapons, the tables themselves are excellent renditions of the items in a variety of game systems.

Blood and Vigilance: Modern Superhero d20
Publisher: RPG Objects
by James C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/12/2004 00:00:00

A very good and easy to implement treatment of superheros for a d20 Modern game.

Very well organized and thought out, it makes adding a superheroic element to your d20 Modern game very simple, entertaining, and just boat-loads of fun. One of my favorite PDF works to date, it is well written, nicely organized, and attractive.

Definitely worth the price of admission.

Blood and Fists: Modern Martial Arts
Publisher: RPG Objects
by James C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/04/2003 00:00:00

Very good, and interesting, system for expanding on the sorely lacking martial arts aspects of heroes in d20. Applies to Modern, but I am looking at how to adapt it for use in our D&D game also; d20 based games have long suffered from a lack of options for those who like to punch, kick, strangle, or take their enemy to the ground... this is the cure.
