Some wonderful innovations to a well known/loved system. I especially loved that it's classless, with paths to take your character that creates unique individuals as you level up.

Edit: Wow, what a difference 15 years makes. These days most of my purchases are PDF. I still prefer hardback for sitting and reading, but PDFs are awesome for referencing, and for taking a bunch of books with me when I travel. I've revised my original rating to 5 of 5, because I no longer believe PDF only is a drawback. And apparently there was POD available back then? Who knew? Anyway, original review below, but these days I don't hate on PDFs
I hate ebooks. Especially ebooks set to weird paper sizes. A4? Who uses A4? Sure, the UK, but the hell with those guys (Tim: poke)
But I bought Legends Walk! even though it's only available in ebook. Legends Walk! is one of only two products I've shelled out money for in ebook form because I couldn't get a proper bound edition. (This was true back when I wrote it.)
I think that fact speaks for itself.
LIKED: I like the core idea: heroes deriving powers from ancient gods. I like the execution of the splats, and the variety shown (especially when you throw in the two splat books). Some people say the didn't like the lack of artwork. I like the lack or artwork. Especially today when so much art is simply filler material instead of useful imagery, I'd rather see the thousand extra words instead.
DISLIKED: The system is crunchier than I like. But plain ol' rock/paper/scissors has one element too many for my tastes, so just about any system is too crunchy for me. I'll carve out what I don't like.
Did I mention I hate ebooks? Make a proper bound edition! I'm marking off points on the product just for that.
QUALITY: Very Good
VALUE: Very Satisfied

As John already knows, LW is now available in print-on-demand format.
But it's still A4. ;) |

I have had generally low expectations of third party content. This book has redefined those expectations. It is brilliant in idea, and in execution. Professionally conceived and written, and wonderfully illustrated.
The concept of the Witch - an original class idea, not just a re-skinned class - is great. It feels alive and complete and unique. I couldn't wait to introduce it to my game, first with an NPC to inspire (the players LOVED the woman with her spellbook written on her skin), then to players as the craft becomes available for teaching.
The craft put into the book itself is excellent. It's well-laid out, clear, well-indexed (had to adjust a few manually in the PDF version, but easy enough to do).
And finally, I don't often go for POD, but the POD product is solid, too. Good binding, good cover, no running ink, no cut off words hidden in the binding.
Eva Brown, Whatever your next product is, I'm in.

I utterly hate paying for PDFs. I'd much rather have a nice, bound, preferably hardcover, book. Electronic format just isn't the same. Sure, you can print 'em out, put 'em in a binder. But it's not like a real book.
Then I read Wushu Open, Dan's free introduction designed to get you hooked on this particular literary drug. Then I came here and snagged all the Wushu stuff.
Wushu's system, based around the Principal of Narrative Truth, is the best system I've seen for getting the players to feel like they are part of the story. It's also ridiculously fast and easy to learn.
Don't let the name fool you. You can do ANYTHING with this game. Wuxia? Of Course. Sci-Fi? Easy. Supers? Check. Angsty Monsters Biting People? Sure. Less Angsty Monsters Tearing Each Other To Shreds? Hell, yeah! Whatever story you want to tell, you can tell it with Wushu.
More specific comments about the individual Wushu works below.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Wire-Fu covers exactly the sort of thing I like to have in my games. High-flying, ass-kicking, sword-clashing action. It has suggestions for the traditional Wuxia sequences that can easily work in your Matrix-type game, in your Jedi-Butt-Whomping adventures or in your superheroic antics.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Having to print it out myself!<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Pulp-Fu does for Pulp Adventure what Wire-Fu did for flying swordsman. It proves the core Wushu Rules are very adaptable to other genres, and provides a good base to begin. I can easily see using this game as the core for my next Cliffhangers type game, but also for any hard-boiled style games.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Once again, I WISH there are a bound edition. I'd buy it all over again!<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>
