I was part of the team that made this, so there may be some bias. But this is a 270+ page miracle of a project. And it's free! The number of interesting, exciting, strange and truly inspired ideas in it is staggering. The biggest surprise to me - however - is how everybody came together to create a coherent world in Beyond Bightwater. This was a volunteer effort with no initial plans beyond "let's make some hexes!" Everyone could have created disconnected, random hexes with no overarching structure, then called it a day. Instead, many included references to other hexes, or altered their own ideas to incorporate the developments in nearby areas. Others created the backstory, unifying the various settlements and giving the world a shared history from which we could all draw. Others made sure we ticked several logistical boxes (general descriptions, wandering monsters and other useful general charts, citation consideration, etc.) so that we could make the product available and usable.
The end result, in my opinion, is something that rivals any similar adventure on the market, and again for no cost at all. Yes, there will be encounters not explicitly connected to other elements of the world. But if you use this to run a game, you'll have a rich, fully-realized world from which to draw inspiration, and many directions (literal and figurative) for your players to explore.
I'm proud to have been a part of this, and to any who download and use it, I sincerely hope you enjoy it!
