The print on this scan is remarkably light, black is reproduced as if it was a middle grey. This is apparent on both the POD and the PDF. I can especially tell the problem is not related to printing due to the added "Notes" pages at the back having a proper deep true black. The lighter print makes the grain of the paper more obvious and can give it a very fuzzy look. Everything else about this scan is absolutely perfect with no visible artifacts, it's a real shame that such a simple fix during the file's QC was ignored.

Regardless of one's opinion on the adventure or its (rumored) place in TSR history, the print on demand copy is an amazing reproduction. The art reproduced very well (including some classic Caldwell and Elmore), the maps are great and the text is very crisp. Good job.

Haven't played it yet so I don't know how to rate the material. I was asked by a player to look into converting this to 5E as he really wanted to play it. I agree with other reviewers that the scans are nice. I dinged it a star because it is doesn't have OCR searchable text.

After looking through this module I don't understand why is has such a bad reputation. From what I can understand, people thought it was an attempt by TSR to destroy Gygax's reputation with a dungeon no one would want to play. I have played a few of Gygax's modules (Tomb of Horrors, village of hommlet, and the dungeonland modules), and having looked at this, I don't see it that way. Gygax's campaign setting, Greyhawk, always had to be played with a sideways glance in the early days, and this module is an apparent attempt by TSR to continue in that frame of mind after Gygax left the company.

Game wise, this is a difficult dungeon, and it is pretty hard on the PCs. If players aren't wary, they will most likely find themselves waiting for their character to be ressed or making a new character.

On the other hand, DMs who take a look at it should do so with the intention of truly making the players play through an adventure that, while difficult, is definately tongue in cheek. There are many encounters that are hommages to or are parodies of various other media (the three stooges, the Wizard of Oz novel, and EVERY competitor TSR had at the time, just to name a few), and the module is definately meant to be funny as well as challenging.

The scan is in excellent condition, with nothing blurry or marred.

All in all, I personally recommend this module (if only to land your campaign on its ear for a good bit).
