About the reviewer: I have been playing D&D since 1978 and have played every edition, most of the time spent behind the DM screen. I currently run 3 5th Edition campaigns set in Greyhawk and frequently put resources I develop on DM’s Guild .
This is a great product for anyone wishing to take their campaign toward a horror motif, or a DM wishing new monsters to throw at their players. The four creatures are each accompanied by a nice illustration and the formatting is similar to standard monster entries found in the Monster Manual.
The monsters include:
Gug (CR10). A subterranean giant cursed by the gods.
Mi-Go (CR5). Intelligent praying mantis like scientists and colonists able to disguise themselves as other creatures.
Nightgaunt (CR3). A gargoyle like creature from the dream realm.
Rat-thing (CR 2). Tiny sadistic rodent like beings.
Each of the creatures has some unique abilities that should keep players on their toes, especially those who have memorized many of the standard monsters. Many of the abilities are more descriptive, rather than mechanically based, making them more appropriate to setting a tone than combat usefulness.
At the time of this review, this product is listed as “Pay What You Want” with an average contribution of just under $1. That seems a fair price for the content provided. This product is highly recommended.
