Spoilers follow.

Top class module which shows it is possible to have epic adventures at low levels. A sequel to UK2 The Sentinel, although an alternative start is provided. Various elements of gameplay are skilfully interwoven: dungeon-crawling, puzzle-solving, roleplay and negotiation, strategic use of defences, and desperate combat are mixed in a very satisfying way. Making use of the Sentinel's powers, the PCs gain special access to the Keep, and if they listen carefully to the artifact and avoid combat against the (somewhat drunken) garrison until as high up as possible, should take it. Then comes the jaw-dropping twist of having to defend what they have just captured from a second stronger force. Having beaten off a first assault, negotiations begin, and the PCs have to solve a puzzle under time pressure, with a greater attack threatened. The action climaxes with a rousing battle against the Gauntlet.

Some may not like the inclusion of a number of Fiend Folio monsters; however screaming devilkins are bound to be fun to play. Some pretty maps. A triumphant party will have gold and glory.

Highly recommended.

Scanned AD&D module that doesn't use any features of the PDF format. Unlike other scans this one is pretty clear. From TSR UK I also find this and it's companion module "Sentinel" to be better written and make more sense than a lot of TSR US modules. Players will have to think to sucede because a straight up charge into battle will kill them.

The follow-on from UK2, and pays better as part of that mini-campaign. It's a bit more linear and straightforwards than UK2, with a stealth mission into a castle which then comes under seige.

LIKED: As with UK2, I love the cartography. The adventure is nice and solid, quite linear without feeling like the PCs are being led from one scene to the next as is the case with many 2nd Ed. adventures.

DISLIKED: Nothing much. Possibly some encounters are overpowered and the PCs may not have increased the requisite levels through UK2 alone.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
This module was very enjoyable for my group of players. It can be used individually or as the second part of the series. It can fit well into any campaign. I recommend it as it gives the players several options for further adventures.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
As in films, the sequel is never as good :) UK2 is a good module, this one, is ok as a follow up, i would not play it as a stand alone though. It does however include a battalion-sized attack on a castle, and that's going to be good for those that like their wargames.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
