Treasure Hunt is an interesting bit of history. I believe it's the first time someone can up with a treatment for Players (rather than NPCs) as 0 level characters. As such I think this book is actually worth evaluating as two separate and distinct pieces.

The first section is the rules for playing as 0 level characters and working your way up to and defining your role as a 1st level adventurers. This was really innovative at the time and reading it now feels very much like it was the inspiration for the 'Character Funnel' idea from Goodman Games. Personally I think these rules hold up really well and even today feel like a really good way to introduce new players and non-gamers to D&D.

The rest of the book is given over to encounters and short adventures tailored to 0 level characters. These encounters are decent and have a simple yet satisfying narrative thread, getting off the island, to link them together.

I do however have 2 relatively minor criticisms of Treasure Hunt:

 1. The book is light on art work and has a fairly flat visual presentation. It's just unfortunate that a book that was so objectively well written and innovative doesn't pack more of a visual punch.
 2. On a very similar note the character tracking forms and pre-generated characters look like they were produced on a typewritter. Given how new and yet simple the character rules are it's a bit of a let down that they didn't come up with a unique new character sheet with more visual appeal.

Overall Treasure Hunt is both a great piece of gaming history as well as a gaming experience that holds up and plays well to this day.

Do you want to run a zero level adventure, but dont care to plunk down the bucks to buy DCC? then try this. it is a good adventure that takes the characters from no nothing losers in a slave ship to heros.

it would probably work with DCC if you love the character funnel. NO SPOILERS... but it is a good little ditty that could really sing in the hands of a capable DM. It will run just fine in your joe average DM hands as well.

Looking for a great way to kick of a 2 year D&D campaign? look no further. I kicked off a 3 year campaign with this little bueaty, and we lasted a full 4 months! this is a record for our gaming group. I have system ADD. I blame drivethru.

Very fun starter adventure. The group had a howl running through it. I think maybe a little rough for the 0 level starting characters included, as my players had some trouble with it even using 1st level characters of their own.

But the presentation is good, and our group had a fun time running around, freezing and virtually weaponless.

Definitely a good starter module for new players, or experienced players beginning a new campaign.

An interesting idea for a AD&D module. The players don't start with classes but s they go along they aquire tally marks to eventual gain 1st level in a class while searching for an escape from a doomed island.

This is a good simple adventure for the New GM. It is broken out into six "Episodes" that can each be played in on sitting bringing the characters for zero to first level {AD&D}.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
My 11-year old wanted to try to be DM. This was a perfect module to let him do. The adventure is divided up into smaller "chapters." The story is straight-forward, but still interesting. We used it to start a brand new group of 1st level characters, that meet in the course of this adventure and now are moving on to bigger challenges as a team.

LIKED: The "chapter" format kept the story moving along w/o being too restricting.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
Very nice and different from a normal 1 level adventure.
