This is such a great tool for DMs! I use it on the fly when players go places and meet people I don't expect, but I also use it to when prepping inns and shops and hideouts and farms, etc. I even used it to add some flavor to groups of zombies and skeletons. They were someone before they died, right?

This book is organized well, has clear, useful instructions and is well written overall. That last part is important. Even the most creative adventure, supplement or tool suffers from poor, sloppy writing, and The NPC Cookbook reads like it was written by a professional with a sense of humor and tons of experience at the game table.

And that experience especially shines through in the genuine usefulness of this book. Get it and pay enough to encourage Ronald to create more tools like this for us (sci-fi variant <cough! cough>)!

This is a really heplful resource. We used it during our Session Zero to flesh out our characters. I had each player roll to be assigned a random question sheet and then let them opt to replace any questions that didn't apply to their character using the ramdom list of all the questions. It worked great! The questions are interesting and genuinely interesting. I'm making this part of launching any new campaign.
