Indespensible resource for folks running adventures in Waterdeep. Waterdeep is a massive, challenging, and daunting space for a DM to prep adventures in. Books like this help tremendously.

If you are going to run your party through Waterdeep for any length of time, it is highly recommended. Waterdeep: Dragonheist WOTC book provides details on Waterdeep, but these are mostly relavent to the adventure. There is less guidance for DMs whose party goes off on tangents to explore elsewhere in the city. If you're a DM with a group that likes to wander around a city, you'll need books like Volo's Guide here to help you.

Also, the print on demand version of this is of very nice quality.

I am so impressed with the print on demand. Quality is terrific and it came sooner than I expected.

I have recieved my copy of the POD version of this book. Its a novel sized print rather then a magazine sized print like most of the DnD products, and the interior quality is good.

• No issue with interior print
• The material in the book is excellent
• Can be used for pretty much any gaming system you want.

• The cover and back of the book are blurry to the point you cant really read the small print

Even with that detractor its well worth its cost

This product is one the best world building products to ever come out of TSR. It's a groundbreaking work of RPG history, and a fun read, so 5 stars for that up front.

The map is in one piece which is nice for mark-up if you're running a city game. The scan of the book is decent. It's mostly searchable by text and the Table of Contents entries are clickable. The columns are a little crazy so, copy/paste is a pain and not really worth it if you can bang out more than 40wpm. My star rating is as follows:

-1 No Print-on-Demand. This product begs for it. Please, work it out however you can.

-1 Including the map with the text in one file forces you to do zoom tricks to see the text well, and the book and map are designed to be used together. In the future consider providing these as seperate files.

+1 Clickable TOC as this is a really useful feature.

I purchased this PDF a few YEARS ago, and the quality of it was mediocre. Fortunately, they've updated the scan!! The book scan is high quality, and it is now indexed, and searchable. The MAP is amazing. A really high resolution scan. You can really zoom in!! Thank you DriveThruRPG! If you had avoided this purchase before due to the quality of the scan its been fixed.

While the book is very good, the reading of this digital version is painful. Words with spaces in the middle of it, other words being mashed together, and sometimes the letter just disappears at times. It is so hard to read that I do hope a better version is created to read

The Volo's Guide series has been lauded by many, and I have no quarrel with that, so this review is about the quality of the scan. I purchased and downloaded this at the end of July 2016, and I have to say that the quality of the scan was mediocre. The pages are aligned, and there are pdf bookmarks in the right places, but it feels to me that the text could be sharper. Perhaps this is a limitation that is inherent to the original document that was scanned, but I downloaded the Vampire: The Masquerade 20th Anniversary edition the same day, and the difference in quality is very noticable. The text of Volo's Guide displays fine on my PC using Adobe Acrobat Reader, but it problems arise when I tried to read it on my Kindle Fire HD because approximately one letter per word would disappear. One could piece together the text with fluency in the English language, but it seems to me that the onus of such cryptology should not have to be borne by the purchaser. I am not unhappy with my purchase since I can still read it on my PC, or I suppose I could print out a copy, but I am a bit disappointed that I cannot read it on my Kindle.

The Volo's guide's are really good. They don't have a lot of game stats in them so the can used with ease in a 3e game. Though they are written for DR 1368/9 so you might have to change a few things but overall they are great.
